Betting on NBA series allows you to select who you will advance to the next round, and not just focus on one particular game.
Extra value can be found if the team you are backing loses one of the first two games, with their odds typically getting worse following a loss.
The Lakers were -400 favourites to win their second round series match up against the Houston Rockets. These odds mean that you would have to wager $400 to be able to profit $100 when LA won the series. The Rockets won game one and the Lakers odds became -210 after the loss, meaning that you would have to wager only $210 to profit $100 when LA eventually won the series.
An example using an underdog is the other 2020 Western Conference semifinal matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets. Denver were +800 underdogs before the series started, meaning a $100 wager would bring an $800 profit. The Clippers dominated the Nuggets in the first game and Denver’s odds blew out to +2000 after the game 1 loss, meaning that a $100 wager would now bring a $2000 profit.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was announced as the 2020 NBA MVP on September 19th.
Giannis opened betting odds as favourite for the award at +285 and saw his odds get as short as -3300 before the announcement.
LeBron James came second in MVP voting after opening betting as third favourite with +700 odds.
James Harden was the other MVP finalist, coming third in voting after opening as +625 second favourite.
Looking ahead to the 2020-21 season, there is plenty of uncertainty with what the season will look like, but Giannis will start as MVP favourite after his dominant performance this last season, and his added drive to win a championship after a disappointing playoff exit.
Ja Morant was named 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year on September 3rd.
After being drafted 2nd to the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja took the starting point guard spot and put the league on notice, going toe to toe with the leagues best guards.
Morant started with the second best odds to win Rookie of the Year at +600, but his dominating play saw him jump ahead in the race, with his odds getting as short as +20000.
Zion Williamson was drafted first overall to the New Orleans Pelicans and started the season as +300 favourite for the award, but knee surgery limited him to only 24 games. His extraordinary play in his limited time resulted in him coming second in the votes.
The little known un-drafted Kendrick Nunn put the league on notice with a 40 point performance in the Miami Heat’s last pre-season game, resulting in him starting in their first game and entering the Rookie of the Year race in November as sixth favourite with +1000 odds. Nunn would end up a Rookie of the Year finalist, coming third.
