Sat 8th July 2023

Read on below to find out UFC Best Bets for this weekend’s UFC 290!

Alexander Volkanovski ©  vs Yair Rodriguez – Featherweight Title Fight

Alexander Volkanovski comes into this fight looking to defend his Featherweight championship against Yair Rodriguez. He has 27 career professional fights and he has picked up 25 victories in that span. He is a very versatile fighter as he has the stamina to go the distance with 10 of his victories coming by decision and 12 of them coming by knockout. One of his two losses have come by knockout and the other came by decision. He comes into this fight ranked second in the men’s pound for pound rankings and with a dominant performance he has the potential to move up to number one.

Jair Rodriguez has had a meteoric rise through the ranks of featherweight, and he will be looking to cap it off with a championship victory here over Alexander Volkanovski on Saturday night. He comes into this fight on a two fight winning streak, and you will be looking to pick up his third consecutive victory, and his first taste of championship gold with another victory here on Saturday night. This will be his toughest test to date as Alexander Volkanovski is one of the best fighters in the UFC at the moment. He has 15 victories in 19 career professional fights and they are all evenly spread out. As he has five knockouts, four submissions, and six victories by decision. However, I don’t expect him to grab a victory here on Saturday as I have Volkanovski winning by decision.

SportsTips’ UFC Pick:

Volkanovski (-375), By DEC (+125)

Brandon Moreno © vs Alexandre Pantoja – Flyweight Title Fight

Brandon Moreno comes into this fight looking to defend his Flyweight championship against Alexandre Pantoja. He comes into this fight with a career record of 21-6-2 in 29 career professional fights. He is coming off of two consecutive victories by knockout and he will be looking to defend his total and secure his third straight victory here on Saturday night against Pantoja. He is a bit of a submission specialist as 11 of his 21 victories in his career have come by submission. The remaining 10 victories he has earned or split evenly between knockouts and decision victories, but it is always a good money bet for him to submit his opponent.

Alexandre Pantoja comes into this fight with a career professional record of 25-5 in 30 career professional fights. This will be his first opportunity to win UFC gold when he faces off with Brandon Moreno here on Saturday night for the flyweight title. The 33-year-old is on a three fight winning streak and he is coming off of a victory over Alex Perez in his only fight of 2022. He will be looking to pick up his fourth consecutive victory in this fight and grab the flyweight championship with a dominating performance over Moreno. 10 of his 25 career victories have come by submission. However, I don’t see him getting the victory here on Saturday night as I think, Moreno picks up the decision victory.

SportsTips’ UFC Pick:

Moreno (-225), By DEC (+150)

Jalin Turner vs Dan Hooker – Lightweight

Jalin Turner comes into this fight with a career professional record of 13-6 through his first 19 career fights. He has yet to go the distance while getting a victory in his professional career as nine of his victories have come by knockout and his remaining four victories have all come by submission. His losses are split down the middle as three of his defeats have come by knockout and three of them have come by decision. He has won five out of his last six fights, but he is coming off of a loss in his last bout and he will be looking to rebound with a victory over Dan Hooker here on Saturday night.

Dan Hooker comes into this fight with a career professional record of 22-12 through his first 34 career fights. He is coming off of the victory in his last fight way back in November 2022 and he will be looking to pick up his second consecutive victory here over Jalin Turner, and further establish himself as a threat to be reckoned within the lightweight division. 11 of his 22 victories have come by knockout and he will be looking to grab another knockout victory here against Jalin Turner on Saturday evening. However, I don’t see that happening as I think Turner grabs the wind by knockout here at UFC 290.

SportsTips’ UFC Pick:

Turner (-275), By KO (-150)
