The No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers (19-4, 8-2 SEC), the NCAA’s top scoring defense, travel to face the Vanderbilt Commodores (11-12, 4-6 SEC) on Wednesday. Tennessee narrowly defeated the Auburn Tigers 46-43 at Thompson-Boling Arena on Saturday.
Josiah-Jordan James had a standout performance with 15 points and 14 rebounds. The Volunteers dropped to third in the Southeastern Conference.
Vanderbilt won a close one on Saturday at Memorial Gym, beating the Ole Miss Rebels 74-71. Liam Robbins had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks to lead the team. The Commodores are 10th in the Southeastern Conference.
The teams are meeting for the final time this season. After taking the only prior season meeting against Vanderbilt 77-68 at Thompson-Boling Arena on January 10, their 11th straight head-to-head victory, Tennessee will be seeking a season sweep. Julian Phillips led the Volunteers with 15 points.
Robbins had 18 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in the losing effort. Zakai Zeigler (11.0 ppg), Olivier Nkamhoua (11.0), and Santiago Vescovi (10.3) have led the Volunteers in scoring this season. Nkamhoua also has grabbed 5.1 rebounds per game, while Zeigler has dished 5.1 assists per game.
Robbins (11.0 ppg), Tyrin Lawrence (10.6), and Myles Stute (10.0) have been the primary providers for the Commodores on offense. Stute also has collected 5.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Ezra Manjon has doled out 3.3 assists per game.
The Volunteers are the stingiest scoring defense in the country with 54.6 points per game allowed. The Volunteers have dominated the last 10 games at Memorial Gym, winning eight.
