The No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils (11-1, 2-0 Pac-12), one of the country’s top shooting defenses, travel to face the San Francisco Dons (9-3) on Wednesday. Arizona State outplayed the San Diego Toreros 91-67 at Desert Financial Arena on Sunday, their ninth straight win.
Desmond Cambridge Jr. was the top scorer with 23 points. Warren Washington chipped in with 18 points and five blocks. San Francisco won a close one on Saturday at Thomas & Mack Center, beating the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels 75-73. Zane Meeks had 17 points and 17 rebounds, carrying the team.
It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. San Francisco came out on top in the only game between the teams last season 66-65 at Desert Financial Arena in December 2021. Khalil Shabazz led the Dons with 20 points, while Meeks contributed 15 points.
Kimani Lawrence had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in the losing effort.DJ Horne (12.6 ppg), Frankie Collins (10.8), and Devan Cambridge (10.8) are leading the Sun Devils in scoring this season. Collins also has dished 5.3 assists per game. Meanwhile, Washington is grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game.
Shabazz (14.5 ppg) and Tyrell Roberts (14.2) have supplied much of the Dons’ offense. Shabazz also has tallied 3.8 assists per game. Meeks has posted 6.8 rebounds per game. Foes are shooting 35.1% from the field against the Sun Devils, ranking as one of the nation’s stingiest FG% defenses (5th).
