The Charlotte 49ers (13-9, 4-7 CUSA), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, play host to the No. 19 Florida Atlantic Owls (21-2, 11-1 CUSA) on Saturday. Florida Atlantic was defeated by the UAB Blazers 86-77 at Bartow Arena on Thursday. With 18 points and seven rebounds, Nick Boyd had a standout performance in defeat. The Owls remain first in Conference USA.

Charlotte dropped a close one on Thursday at Dale F. Halton Arena, falling to the FIU Panthers 57-54. Brice Williams had 27 points and six rebounds in the loss to lead the team.

The 49ers are ninth in Conference USA. The teams are meeting for the last time this season. Florida Atlantic will be pursuing a season sweep against Charlotte after winning the only prior meeting 71-67 at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on January 7, their third straight head-to-head victory.

Alijah Martin led the Owls with 17 points. Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. The Owls have been led this season by Johnell Davis, who is averaging 12.2 points per game.

Meanwhile, Vladislav Goldin is grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game, and Jalen Gaffney is dishing 2.5 assists. Williams has powered the 49ers on offense, averaging 12.7 points per game.

Aly Khalifa is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, and Lu’Cye Patterson is doling out 3.4 assists. The 49ers are one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the NCAA, ranking 15th with 61.4 points per game allowed.
