The Pacific Tigers (10-11, 3-3 WCC) will try to slow down one of the nation’s top scoring teams when they host the No. 6 Gonzaga Bulldogs (16-4, 5-1 WCC) on Saturday. Gonzaga was narrowly beaten by the Loyola Marymount Lions 68-67 at McCarthey Athletic Center on Thursday.
Drew Timme was the scoring leader in defeat with 17 points. Nolan Hickman chipped in with 12 points and six assists. The Bulldogs are second in the West Coast Conference.
Pacific lost in blowout fashion on Thursday at War Memorial Gymnasium, falling to the San Francisco Dons 78-57. Donovan Williams had 15 points in the losing effort to lead the team. The Tigers are sixth in the West Coast Conference.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Gonzaga earned the win in the only matchup between the teams last season 89-51 at McCarthey Athletic Center in February 2022, their 18th straight head-to-head victory.
Rasir Bolton led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Alphonso Anderson had 16 points in the loss. The Bulldogs have been led this season by Timme, who is averaging 21.3 points per game, ninth-highest in the nation. Timme also has grabbed 7.8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Hickman is dishing 3.7 assists.
Keylan Boone (11.0 ppg), Tyler Beard (9.9), and Luke Avdalovic (9.7) have supplied much of the Tigers’ offense. Boone also has collected 4.3 rebounds per game, while Beard has tallied 2.9 assists per game.
With 85.9 points per game, the Bulldogs are one of the top scoring offenses in the nation (2nd).Gonzaga is 9-1 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +18.9 (91.9-73.0).
For the season, the Bulldogs are averaging 85.9 points per game, compared to 72.9 for opponents. Pacific has a 6-4 record over the last 10, allowing 72.6 points per game on average while scoring only 71.5 (-1.1 margin).
