The Virginia Tech Hokies (11-7, 1-6 ACC) will try to slow down one of the top shooting teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference when they head to face the No. 19 Clemson Tigers (15-4, 7-1 ACC) on Saturday. Virginia Tech was defeated by the Virginia Cavaliers 78-68 at John Paul Jones Arena on Wednesday, their sixth loss in a row.
Darius Maddox was the scoring leader in the loss with 13 points. Hunter Cattoor was another key contributor with 11 points and six rebounds. The Hokies are 12th in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Clemson lost on Tuesday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 87-77. PJ Hall scored 22 points to lead the team in scoring in the losing effort. With 19 points and 14 rebounds, Hunter Tyson also had a strong game. The Tigers remain first in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. After taking the only prior season meeting against Virginia Tech 68-65 at Cassell Coliseum on January 4, Clemson will be seeking a season sweep. Tyson led the Tigers with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Grant Basile had 17 points in the loss.
Sean Pedulla is averaging 16.4 points per game to lead the Hokies in scoring this season. Pedulla also has dished 4.3 assists per game. Meanwhile, Justyn Mutts is grabbing 7.4 rebounds. Tyson’s 15.8 points per game have powered the Tigers on offense. Tyson also has averaged 10.1 rebounds per game.
Chase Hunter has tallied 4.1 assists per game. Shooting 46.8% from the field, the Tigers are one of the most accurate field goal shooting teams in the ACC (3rd).
