Purdue won their seventh in a row on Wednesday at Donald L. Tucker Center, beating the Florida State Seminoles 79-69. Zach Edey had 25 points, carrying the team. The teams are meeting for the only time this season.
Purdue earned the win in the only game between the teams last season 88-73 at Williams Arena on February 2. Jaden Ivey led the Boilermakers with 21 points, while Sasha Stefanovic played a key role with 15 points and seven assists.
Payton Willis had 24 points and 10 assists in the losing effort.The Golden Gophers have been led this season by Dawson Garcia, who is averaging 14.3 points per game. Meanwhile, Ta’Lon Cooper is dishing 7.0 assists per game, ninth-most in the country, and Payne is grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game.
Edey (22.1 ppg) has been the primary provider for the Boilermakers on offense. Edey also has pulled down 11.4 rebounds per game, 10th-most in the NCAA. Ethan Morton has doled out 4.7 assists per game.
Half-court execution will be critical in this matchup that features a pair of the country’s slowest-paced teams, as the Golden Gophers are 340th in possessions per game while the Boilermakers are 323rd.
