The McNeese State Cowboys (3-6, 1-0 Southland) will try to overcome one of the nation’s top scoring defenses when they head to face the No. 20 Iowa State Cyclones (7-2) on Sunday. McNeese State narrowly defeated the UNI Panthers 52-49 at McLeod Center on Friday. Roberts Berze was the scoring leader with 12 points.
Iowa State lost in blowout fashion on Thursday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, falling to the Iowa Hawkeyes 75-56. Gabe Kalscheur recorded 12 points to top the scoresheet in the loss. With 11 points, Tamin Lipsey also played a part.
The Cowboys have been led this season by Christian Shumate and Trae English, who are averaging 11.4 and 11.2 points per game, respectively. Shumate also has grabbed 10.1 rebounds per game, while English has dished 3.2 assists per game.
Jaren Holmes has been the primary provider of the Cyclones’ offense, averaging 13.9 points per game. Aljaz Kunc is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game, and Lipsey is recording 3.9 assists. The Cyclones are holding opponents to 58.8 points per game, ranking as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the nation (20th).
