The Miami (FL) Hurricanes (24-6, 15-5 ACC) face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (19-13, 11-10 ACC) Thursday at Greensboro Coliseum in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tourney.
Wake Forest edged past the Syracuse Orange 77-74 at Greensboro Coliseum yesterday in the second round. With 17 points apiece, Daivien Williamson and Bobi Klintman were the top scorers. Tyree Appleby added 15 points, 12 assists, and six rebounds.
Miami (FL) won a close one on Saturday at Watsco Center, beating the Pittsburgh Panthers 78-76 in their regular season finale. Wooga Poplar led the team in scoring with 18 points.
With 17 points and eight rebounds, Jordan Miller also impressed.Miami (FL) triumphed in the only meeting against Wake Forest this season 96-87 at Watsco Center on February 18, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Isaiah Wong led the Hurricanes with 27 points, while Nijel Pack added 24 points. Appleby had 15 points in the losing effort. The Demon Deacons have been led this season by Appleby, who is averaging 18.7 points per game. Appleby also has dished 6.5 assists per game, fifth-most in the country.
Meanwhile, Andrew Carr is grabbing 5.9 rebounds. Wong (15.9 ppg), Miller (15.1), and Norchad Omier (14.1) have supplied much of the Hurricanes’ offense. Omier also has pulled down 10.0 rebounds per game, while Wong has tallied 3.4 assists per game.
