The No. 16 Xavier Musketeers (20-7, 12-4 Big East), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, welcome the Villanova Wildcats (13-14, 7-9 Big East) on Tuesday. Villanova was beaten by the Providence Friars 85-72 at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday, their third loss in a row away from home.
Eric Dixon led the way in the loss with 18 points and eight rebounds. The Wildcats are seventh in the Big East Conference. Xavier won their 11th in a row at home on Saturday at Cintas Center, beating the DePaul Blue Demons 82-68.
Jack Nunge had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team. The Musketeers fell to fourth in the Big East Conference.The teams are meeting for the final time this season.
Xavier will be pursuing a season sweep against Villanova after coming out on top in the only previous matchup 88-80 at Finneran Pavilion on January 7.
Zach Freemantle led the Musketeers with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Cam Whitmore had 26 points in the losing effort.The Wildcats have been led this season by Caleb Daniels and Dixon, who are averaging 15.9 and 15.7 points per game, respectively.
Dixon also has grabbed 6.7 rebounds per game, while Daniels has dished 2.6 assists per game. Souley Boum (16.2 ppg), Nunge (14.7), and Colby Jones (14.4) have been the primary providers for the Musketeers on offense. Nunge also has posted 7.9 rebounds per game, while Boum has doled out 4.7 assists per game.
The Musketeers rank as one of the top scoring offenses in the nation, ninth-best with 82.6 points per game.Villanova is 5-5 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +0.4 (66.8-66.4).
