The Vanderbilt Commodores (16-13, 9-7 SEC) will try to slow down one of the top shooting teams in the Southeastern Conference when they travel to face the No. 23 Kentucky Wildcats (20-9, 11-5 SEC) on Wednesday. Vanderbilt defeated the Florida Gators 88-72 at Memorial Gym on Saturday.
Liam Robbins had a standout performance with 18 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks. The Commodores remain fifth in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky won their fourth in a row in impressive fashion on Saturday at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center, beating the Auburn Tigers 86-54.
Oscar Tshiebwe had 22 points and 17 rebounds to lead the team. The Wildcats are third in the Southeastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the last time this season.
Kentucky will be seeking a season sweep against Vanderbilt after triumphing in the only earlier meeting 69-53 at Memorial Gym on January 24, their 14th straight head-to-head victory. Antonio Reeves led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Tshiebwe was a key contributor with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Malik Dia had 14 points in defeat. Robbins is averaging 13.4 points per game to lead the Commodores in scoring this season. Robbins also has grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Ezra Manjon is dishing 3.8 assists. Tshiebwe (15.2 ppg) and Reeves (13.4) have supplied much of the Wildcats’ offense.
Tshiebwe also has posted 11.9 rebounds per game, third-most in the country. Cason Wallace has distributed 4.2 assists per game. The Wildcats rank as one of the most accurate teams from the field in the league, third-best at 46.2%.
The Commodores are winless in their last 10 visits to Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center. Vanderbilt is 6-4 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -4.5 (69.8-74.3). Kentucky has a 7-3 record over the last 10, scoring 73.0 points per game on average while holding opponents to 67.6 (+5.4 margin).
