The Tennessee Volunteers (2-1) are on the road to face the Butler Bulldogs (3-1), who will be out to extend their home winning streak, on Wednesday. Tennessee dismantled the FGCU Eagles 81-50 at Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday.
Josiah-Jordan James was the key player with 18 points and six rebounds. Butler won their third in a row at home in impressive fashion on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse, beating the Citadel Bulldogs 89-42. Simas Lukosius and Jayden Taylor tallied 18 points each to lead the team in scoring. With 15 points, six assists, and five steals, Eric Hunter Jr also produced a strong performance.
The Bulldogs triumphed in the last meeting between the teams 94-86 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in December 2015.The Volunteers have been led early this season by James and Tyreke Key, who are averaging 13.7 and 12.7 points per game, respectively.
James also has grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Santiago Vescovi is dishing 3.7 assists per game. Chuck Harris (15.8 ppg), Taylor (14.8), and Lukosius (14.3) have been the primary providers of the Bulldogs’ offense. Manny Bates is pulling down 8.5 rebounds per game, and Hunter Jr is tallying 4.0 assists.
