The No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles (19-6, 11-3 Big East), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, travel to face the Georgetown Hoyas (6-18, 1-12 Big East) on Saturday. Marquette was beaten by the UConn Huskies 87-72 at XL Center on Tuesday. Tyler Kolek had a standout performance in defeat with 17 points.
The Golden Eagles are second in the Big East Conference. Georgetown dropped their third in a row on Saturday at Capital One Arena, falling to the UConn Huskies 68-62. Brandon Murray had 21 points to top the scoresheet in the loss. The Hoyas are 11th in the Big East Conference.
The teams are meeting for the final time this season. Marquette will be pursuing a season sweep against Georgetown after taking the only prior meeting 95-73 at Fiserv Forum on January 7, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Kam Jones led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, while Kolek contributed 7 points and 15 assists. Primo Spears had 18 points in the losing effort. The Golden Eagles have been led this season by Jones and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who are averaging 15.3 and 13.0 points per game, respectively.
Meanwhile, Kolek is dishing 7.6 assists per game, third-most in the country, and Oso Ighodaro is grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game. Spears has supplied much of the Hoyas’ offense, averaging 16.1 points per game.
Spears also has recorded 5.3 assists per game. Qudus Wahab has posted 7.3 rebounds per game. The Golden Eagles rank as one of the most explosive offenses in the country, 20th-best with 80.9 points per game.
In the last 10 games, Marquette is 8-2 with an average margin of +8.6 (80.0-71.4). Georgetown has gone 1-9 over the last 10, allowing 76.8 points per game on average while scoring only 65.6 (-11.2 margin). The Hoyas are averaging 71.1 ppg for the full season while allowing 77.2.
