It figures to be a high-scoring affair when the No. 24 UConn Huskies (18-6, 7-6 Big East) welcome the No. 14 Marquette Golden Eagles (19-5, 11-2 Big East) on Tuesday. Marquette topped the Butler Bulldogs 60-52 at Fiserv Forum on Saturday, their fifth straight win. Tyler Kolek was the standout player with 13 points and eight assists.
The Golden Eagles remain first in the Big East Conference. UConn won on Saturday at Capital One Arena, beating the Georgetown Hoyas 68-62. Tristen Newton had 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, leading the team.
The Huskies are sixth in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the last time this season. Marquette will be seeking a season sweep against UConn after earning the win in the only earlier game 82-76 at Fiserv Forum on January 11. Oso Ighodaro led the Golden Eagles with 19 points, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper played a key role with 17 points.
Donovan Clingan had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in the losing effort. The Golden Eagles have been led this season by Kam Jones and Prosper, who are averaging 15.7 and 13.5 points per game, respectively. Meanwhile, Kolek is dishing 7.8 assists per game, third-most in the NCAA, and Ighodaro is grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game.
Adama Sanogo (17.2 ppg) and Jordan Hawkins (14.9) have been the primary providers for the Huskies on offense. Sanogo also has posted 7.2 rebounds per game. Newton has distributed 4.0 assists per game.
The Golden Eagles and the Huskies rank as two of the top offenses in the country, 12th and 15th in offensive efficiency, respectively. In the last 10 games, Marquette is 9-1 with an average margin of +10.3 (79.6-69.3).
