The No. 5 Arizona Wildcats (12-1, 1-1 Pac-12), one of the country’s top scoring teams, travel to face the No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils (11-2, 2-0 Pac-12) on Saturday.
Arizona outplayed the Morgan State Bears 93-68 at McKale Memorial Center on December 22, their sixth consecutive win. With 26 points and nine rebounds, Azuolas Tubelis was the key player.
Arizona State lost in blowout fashion on December 21 at War Memorial Gymnasium, falling to the San Francisco Dons 97-60. Duke Brennan had 12 points in the losing effort, leading the team. The teams are meeting for the only time this season.
Arizona won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 91-79 triumph at Desert Financial Arena on February 7, their fourth straight head-to-head victory. Tubelis led the Wildcats with 19 points, while Pelle Larsson was a key contributor with 14 points.
Marreon Jackson had 16 points and eight assists in defeat. Tubelis and Oumar Ballo, averaging 20.1 and 17.8 points per game, respectively, are leading the Wildcats in scoring this season. Ballo also has grabbed 9.1 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Kerr Kriisa is dishing 6.1 assists per game.DJ Horne has been the primary provider for the Sun Devils on offense, averaging 12.5 points per game. Warren Washington is posting 7.1 rebounds per game, and Frankie Collins is tallying 5.1 assists.
The Wildcats are averaging 90.2 points per game, ranking as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country (2nd). The Wildcats have found success in recent visits to Desert Financial Arena, winning six of the last 10.
