The No. 22 Charleston Cougars (17-1, 5-0 CAA), one of the country’s top scoring teams, welcome the Elon Phoenix (2-15, 0-4 CAA) on Saturday. Elon lost to the North Carolina A&T Aggies 80-71 at Schar Center on Wednesday, their seventh loss in a row. Torrence Watson led the way in defeat with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Phoenix are 13th in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Charleston won their 16th in a row in a close one on Wednesday at Raiford G. Trask Coliseum, beating the UNCW Seahawks 71-69. Dalton Bolon topped the scoresheet with 16 points.
With 13 points and seven assists, Ryan Larson also had a strong game. The Cougars remain first in the Colonial Athletic Conference.It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Charleston won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 66-64 triumph at Schar Center in February 2022.
Nick Farrar led the Cougars with 23 points. Hunter McIntosh had 20 points in the losing effort. Sean Halloran and Zac Ervin, averaging 13.1 and 11.2 points per game, respectively, are leading the Phoenix in scoring this season. Halloran also has dished 4.4 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Max Mackinnon is grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game.Bolon has supplied much of the Cougars’ offense, averaging 13.2 points per game. Babacar Faye is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game, and Larson is recording 4.2 assists.
The Cougars rank as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country, 28th-best with 80.3 points per game. The Phoenix are 3-6 in their last 10 games at TD Arena. In the last 10 games, Elon is 1-9 with an average margin of -6.2 (67.2-73.4).
Charleston has won each of the last 10 as part of the team’s 16-game win streak, scoring 79.3 points per game on average while holding opponents to 66.2 (+13.1 margin). The Cougars are averaging 80.3 ppg for the full season while allowing 70.5.
