UFC Fight Night Preview & Predictions: Ortega vs Korean Zombie

UFC Fight Night Preview & Predictions: Ortega vs Korean Zombie
Thu 15th October 2020

On Sunday the UFC returns to action with the heavily anticipated featherweight title fight headlined by Brian Ortega taking on Chan Sung  Jung aka the Korean Zombie in Abu Dhabi in UFC Fight Night.

It has been a long time coming for both fighters with American Ortega not fighting since December 2018 when he lost the featherweight title fight to Max Holloway when he pulled out due to an injury.

Meanwhile the Korean Zombie hasn’t stepped foot in the octagon since December 2019 when he fought Frankie Edgar winning the fight in three minutes due to a knockout and technical knockout.

While it has been a while for both fighters, this is sure to be an interesting contest (one of the reasons is because neither have fought since their last bout almost one-two years ago) but the other fascinating fact is they both have similar records.

American Ortega may have lost his last fight however, he still has a record of 14 wins and one defeat, while the Korean Zombie is only two wins ahead of him boosting a record of 16 wins and five defeats.

Since 2011 though the Korean Zombie has only been defeated twice which came against Jose Aldo in 2013 and Yair Rodriguez in 2018, while Ortega’s only defeat came in 2018 against Holloway.

Both have very different styles of fighting as the Korean Zombie’s stance is orthodox and mainly goes for the head as was proven in his bout with Edgar where he targeted the head 77% of the time.

When he fought Renato Moicano he only went for the head 65% of the time, while he mainly targeted the leg against Moicano going targeting for the leg breakdown 100% when he had the chance. When he fought Rodriguez he went for the head 39 % of the time, while he mainly went for the body (64 %) and the leg (67 %) so it shows that even though the Korean Zombie likes to go for the head, he can change it up to breakdown other areas.

Meanwhile Ortega likes to target the body more than targeting the head. Throughout his last three fights he went for the body 89 % of the time when he fought Holloway, 75 % against Edgar and 82 % against Cub Swanson.

He also likes to target the legs going at 100 % in his last three fights. When breaking Ortega’s stance on going for the head it is very low compared to his competitor. He went for the head 33 % against Holloway, 30 % against Edgar and 21 % against Swanson.

It should be noted that the winner of this fight, does have the chance to challenge Alexander Volkanovski who is currently the holder of the UFC Featherweight belt.

Prediction: Chan Sung Jung (the Korean Zombie) -195.
