Read on below to find out UFC Best Bets for this weekend’s UFC 272!

Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal (Welterweight)

It may be fair to say that Colby Covington is the most controversial fighter in the history of the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. However, he has also admitted that it is all an act to generate buzz for his fights. His fake persona didn’t fly well with his former friend Jorge Masvidal as they have gone from good friends to bitter enemies. Now the two will face off on Saturday evening and it is going to be an absolute slugfest between two of the hardest hitters in the sport. This could very well end up being a five-round classic or a one-round knockout.

Colby Covington comes into this fight with a record of 16-3. He stands 5 foot 11 inches tall and weighs 169 pounds. He has a reach of 72 inches and brings a wrestling style to the octagon. He was a former collegiate wrestler and compiled a total of three gold medals, two of them came at the Pac-10 championships during his time at Oregon State and one came at the world championships representing the United States. In 19 career fights he has a total of 4 wins by knockout, 4 wins by submission, and 8 wins by decision. He has lost two of his last three fights as he was knocked out by Kamaru Usman at UFC 245, then he was beaten by Usman again by Decision at UFC 268.

Jorge Masvidal is coming into this fight with a record of 35-15 in 50 total fights in his professional Mixed Martial Arts career. He stands at 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs in at 170 pounds, and has a reach of 74 inches. As a member of American Top Team since 2007 he has transformed into one of the most dominant fighters in the history of the UFC. He will always be remembered for his insane knockout of Ben Askren. 16 of his 35 victories have come via knockout, while 17 have come by decision and 2 by submission. As for the result of this fight I have Masvidal getting the win over Covington by knockout.

Tony’s UFC Pick: Jorge Masvidal (+265), By Knockout (+420)

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Renato Moicano (Catch Weight)

This all Brazilian matchup at a catch weight should be one of the best fights in this entire calendar year. Às Rafael Dos Anjos will take on Renato Moicano on Saturday evening. The fight will commence at catch weight of 160 pounds and be the co-main event. This fight was originally supposed to be between Rafael Dos Anjos and Rafael Fiziev but Fiziev had to pull out due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Renato Moicano is stepping in to take this fight on less than a week’s notice.

Rafael Dos Anjos comes into this fight with a career overall record of 30-13. Only five of his wins have come by knockout as he is more of a submission artist. 10 of his wins have come by submission and 15 have come by decision. He is a four time medal winner in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has won gold once and bronze three times. He is also a former UFC Lightweight Champion. He would wind up losing the title to Eddie Alvarez by first round knockout. It has been nearly a year and a half since his last fight, which was a win over Paul Felder by split decision.

Renato Moicano comes into this fight with a career professional record of 16-4-1 through 21 fights. Much like Dos Anjos he is also a submission artist as 9 of his 16 wins have come by submission, while 7 have come via decision and 1 by knockout. He stands at 5 foot 11 inches tall, weighs 155 pounds and has a reach of 72 inches, as this fight is a virtual mirror match. Moicano is taking this fight on five days notice so it will be a tough task for him to get the win. As for the result of this fight I can’t see it happening as I have Dos Anjos winning by submission.

Tony’s UFC Pick: Rafael Dos Anjos (-166), By Submission (+500)

Sergey Spivak vs Greg Hardy (Heavyweight)

Sergey Spivak comes into fight with 16 career professional fights as he has a record of 13-3. Five of his wins have come by knockout, and six by submission and two by decision. He stands at six feet three inches tall, weighs in at 239 pounds and has a reach of  78 inches. In his last fight he had a three fight win streak broken as he lost to Tom Aspinall by knockout back in September of 2021. This will be his eighth career UFC fight. As he will be looking to bounce back with a victory in this fight over former National Football League player Greg Hardy.

The previously mentioned Greg Hardy is still a relative newcomer to the Mixed Martial Arts scene. He comes into this fight with 12 career professional fights and a record of 7-4-1-1 with one of those fights being a no contest. He stands at six feet five inches tall, weighs 265  pounds and has a reach of 80 inches. His no contest was actually a win that was overturned after he used an inhaler in between rounds. He is currently on a two fight losing streak after being knocked out in each of his previous two matchups against Marcin Tybura and Tai Tuivasa. As for the result of this fight I have Greg Hardy bouncing back with a knockout victory.

Tony’s UFC Pick: Greg Hardy (+154), By Knockout (+270)
