Wimbledon Predictions: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For The Quarterfinals
Mon 5th July 2021

Unfortunately none of the Americans managed to make it through to the Quarterfinals, but nonetheless, there are still going to be some really amazing matchups that we are keen to stay up and watch. We have the number one seed in both the men’s and women’s draw still left in the tournament.

Both Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty are the clear favorites to take out the Championship in their respective draws. But this doesn’t mean they will, and we smell a few upsets on the horizon.

All the positions have been booked in the Quarterfinals, except one. The Round of 16 clash between Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev had to be postponed after the fourth set was completed due to poor weather. The winner of this clash will take on Roger Federer in the Quarterfinals, and we will bring you that preview here in this article once the game is completed!

With so much drama already in the first week, we are expecting more of the same again as we head into the Quarterfinals. Enjoy our free tennis picks and predictions for each round of the 2021 Wimbledon tournament.

Quarterfinals Tennis Picks For Wimbledon: Men’s

Karen Khachanov (21) vs Denis Shapovalov (10)

The first of the men’s Quarterfinals will be Karen Khachanov up against Denis Shapovalov. Khachanov was the one who outed American Korda in the Round of 16, in a gruelling five set match. He is yet to face a seeded player in the tournament, but all of that will change this round, when he comes up against the Canadian.

Khachanov has reached the Quarterfinals before, at the French Open in 2019, so he has experienced the pressures of this type of match before, but he will be looking to go one (or two) better at Wimbledon. The Round of 16 match was important for Khachanov as Korda really gave him a run for his money, so he knows what do to when his back is up against the wall, which is where he might find himself in this match.

Apart from the first round match Shapovalov has had a fairly easy ride into the Quarterfinals. His first round match was a mammoth five setter, then his second round opponent retired before a single ball was hit. The third and fourth rounds were both one in straight sets. So, with fatigue playing a role, now we are in the second week, Shapovalov certainly has the fresher legs of the two. The pair have played once before, with Shapovalov winning that match.

Shapovalov is the deserved favorite for this match, and we think he will win. His ability to move around on the grass court is something to be admired and looking at his last two performances, he has just steamrolled his opponents. We don’t know if Khachanov has the ability to put up a good enough fight here.

Tennis Pick: Match Winner – Denis Shapovalov (-280)

Matteo Berrettini (7) vs Felix Auger Aliassime (16)

Matteo Berrettini will take on the second Canadian that has made it to the Quarterfinals, in Felix Auger Aliassime. Berrettini has had a very solid run so far at Wimbledon, only dropping one set in his first four matches, and that was in his opening round clash. Since then he has won in straight sets. This will be the first time Berrettini will face a seeded player in the tournament.

Berrettini had a decent run into Wimbledon as well, and is currently in really hot form. He played at the Queen’s Club Championships, where he won, so he has got a lot of confidence at the moment. Every match he just seems to be getting better and better, but his competition in this match will be very tough.

Auger Aliassime has had an interesting tournament so far, his first round match was an easy three setter. Then in the second round, it was a bit closer and he needed four sets to overcome his opponent. In the third round, it was one set a piece, before Kyrgios retired hurt. His match in the Round of 16 was a classic, a five setter against Zverev. He won the first two sets, but then dropped the next two, but was able to turn the momentum of the match around and get the fifth set and move into the final eight.

The pair have met each other once before, with Berrettini leading the head-to-head. Although their previous meeting was a straight set victory to Berrettini, it was a close scoreline, 6-4, 7-6(11). Both players have a very offensive game and this is going to be a very intriguing matchup, and they both love an ace! With the offense being so similar, we believe the winner will be the one who makes the less unforced errors. While we can’t pick who will win this clash, we think it will go to at least four sets.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 3.5 (-182)

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Márton Fucsovics

Novak Djokovic will take on the last unseeded player in the men’s draw in Márton Fucsovics in the Quarterfinals. Djokovic has dropped one set so far this tournament (in the first round) and is the clear favourite to win the Wimbledon Chamionship, at odds of -600, with his next closest rival Daniil Medvedev, who still has to finish (and win) his Round of 16 encounter with Hubert Hurkacz.

Everything is working on full steam for Djokovic and it is hard to see who will stop him claiming his 20th Grand Slam title. After winning the Australian Open and French Open earlier in the year, the Serb just has to win at Wimbledon and the US Open to successfully complete a Career Grand Slam.

Fucsovics is the 2009 junior Wimbledon Champion, so he does offer good performances on the grass court. He has had a tough draw to make it to the Quarterfinals and has outplayed three seeds to make it to the final eight. In the first round, he won against the 19th seed, Sinner in four sets. In the third round, he won against the 9th seed, Schwartzman also in four sets. In his last match it took five sets to dispatch the fifth seed of Rublev.

The pair have played twice before, with Djokovic leading that head-to-head, 2-0. Djokovic is going into this match to very short priced favourite, and it’s no surprises that we think he will win. The amount of time both players have spent on the court is very different, and fatigue, among a lot of other factors will come into play, in Djokovic’s favor.

Tennis Pick: Set Betting – Novak Djokovic 3-0 (-320)

Roger Federer (6) vs Hubert Hurkacz (14)

We now know who Roger Federer will be facing in the Quarterfinals; Hubert Hurkacz, after Hurkacz’s Round of 16 match was postponed due to poor weather! Federer faced some challenges in the first round, but ended up going through to the next round as his opponent, Mannarino, retired hurt at the end of the fourth set.

He then had a straight forward match against Gasquet in the second round, winning in straight sets. In his third round match he came across 29th seeded Norrie, and was victorious in four sets. As Federer moves into the second week of Wimbledon, more people are wondering how his body will hold up, especially after needing to retire before his fourth round match was played at the French Open just a few weeks ago. But the good news is that it is a looking good from that point of view!

What a thrilling and dramatic way to enter the Quarterfinals by Hurkacz. Hurkacz’s Round of 16 clash with second seed Medvedev was postponed at the end of the fourth set, and was picked up again the next day, where Hurkacz won the final set to progress to the next round. He played out of his skin in the final set, and Medvedev didn’t even stand a chance. Prior to that five set match, the other third matches Hurkacz played at Wimbledon were all straight sets.

The pair have met each other once before, with Federer leading that tally, winning in the Quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters in 2019. It looks like both players are peaking their form at the same time, so this is going to be a very interesting clash. Hurkacz will have significantly less recovery time compared to Federer, however. Hurkacz has got a first serve that will make Federer scared, but his second serve is pretty weak that Federer could easily take advantage of. We just can’t go past Federer for this matchup however, as he is the better and more experienced grass court player.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 3.5 (-192)

Quarterfinals Tennis Picks For Wimbledon: Women’s

Karolina Plíšková (8) vs Viktorija Golubic

Karolina Plíšková will take on one of the two unseeded players left in the women’s side of the draw in Viktorija Golubic. While Plíšková is yet to face a seeded player this tournament, she is still winning with such dominance, and she hasn’t dropped a single set on her way to the Quarterfinals.

None of the sets Plíšková has played have gone to a tie breaker either, which just shows how comfortably she has been getting the wins so far at Wimbledon. This is, however, the first time that Plíšková has reached the Quarterfinals at Wimbledon, so she must be feeling the nerves a bit, but at least she will have very fresh legs going into this match.

Unseeded Golubic struggled badly in the first round and was almost knocked out. Since then she has beaten three Americans in a row, in straight sets to make her way into the Quarterfinals. In her Round of 16 clash, she won against the 23rd seed of keys. This will be the first time that Golubic has made a Grand Slam Quarterfinal, so it looks like there will be a few nerves on both sides of the court.

The pair have met once before, and interestingly, it is actually Golubic who is leading that head-to-head, with Golubic winning in three sets. This is set to be one of the matches of the round, with Plíšková’s offensive she can dominate points and push Golubic around the court. But Golubic knows how to handle a powerful game, and has the ability to draw out errors from her opponents. This is going to be a close one, and we are liking the overs here.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 2.5 (+126)

Karolina Muchová (19) vs Angelique Kerber (25)

Karolina Muchová will take on Angelique Kerber for a spot in the Semi Finals. Muchová has had a fairly comfortable ride into the Quarterfinals, knocking out two seeded players on her way. She has only dropped one set so far this tournament, and has taken out 16th seed, Pavlyuchenkova in the third round, and 30th seed Badosa Gibert in the Round of 16.

The 24 year old has one won title so far in her career, the Korea Open in 2019. This is in fact the second time Muchová has made it to the final eight at Wimbledon, but if she wants her best performance at this Grand Slam, she has got some pretty stiff competition in Kerber.

Kerber is the former Wimbledon, in 2018, and she is currently on an eight match winning streak. Can anything slow her down? Only time will tell! Kerber broke the hearts of all Americans when she dispatched American Gauff in the Round of 16 in straight sets. Looking back at all her performances so far this tournament, she has dropped two sets.

The pair have met on two previous occasions, with the German of Kerber, victorious in both. Muchová’s game is suited for grass, which is why she has done so well so far this tournament. She has got amazing variety in her game that really surprises her opponents. Kerber has strong groundstrokes that will give Muchová a run for her money, but she will need to play more offensively, if she wants to get the win here.

Tennis Pick: Match Winner – Karolina Muchová (+128)

Ons Jabeur (21) vs Aryna Sabalenka (2)

In one of the most interesting matches of the round, Ons Jabeur will take on the second seeded player Aryna Sabalenka. Jabeur had an easy first two rounds winning both in straight sets, then things started getting a little bit harder in the third and fourth rounds, and both matches went the distance, with Jabeur coming back from one set down in both matches.

On her way to the Quarterfinals, Jabeur has knocked out the 11th seed in Muguruza, as well as this 7th seed in Świątek. If you are looking for someone with recent form on grass, then you may have found it in Jabeur, her recent form speaks for itself, winning 10 0f her previous 11 grass court matches. Her draw was not an easy one, and she managed to dismantle three previous Grand Slam winner (in a row) to reach the Quarters.

Sabalenka is in the form of her life right now at Wimbledon, previously she had never made it past the second round, but this time she is in the final eight. She had a little bit of a scare in the Rond of 16, but was able to get the job done in three sets to make it to the next round, and looking at the important points, she has always had the ability to step it up!

The pair have played each other twice before, with the head-to-head all locked up at 1-1. While both players aren’t really known for their grass court ability, they have put on some stellar performances to make it through. Jabeur has got the variety that Sabalenka will need to be wary of. While Sabalenka has got a serve that is known to get her out of trouble. We think this will be a close one!

Tennis Pick: Total Match Games – Over 22.5 (-120)

Ashleigh Barty (1) vs Ajia Tomljanović

We wrap the women’s Quarterfinals matches with a juicy one, two Australians doing battle for a spot in the final four! The world number one, Ashleigh Barty, will be up against one of two unseeded players left in the women’s draw, Ajia Tomljanović. Other than her close first round encounter with Suárez Navarro, Barty has had a pretty smooth ride to the Quarters.

She has only dropped on set, and had put in some very dominant performances, showing just why she is number one in the world and the clear favourite to take out the Grand Slam. Barty has been consistently good this year so far, but is yet to win a Grand Slam in 2021, losing in the Quarters at the Australian Open and retiring from the second round at the French Open.
fanduel sign up bonus

Tomljanović will have a very short (much shorter than Barty) recovery period between her Round of 16 match and this Quarterfinal. Surprisingly, Tomljanović is yet to face a seeded player at Wimbledon, but this will change when she faces the world number one. Most of her previous matches have been fairly close, and in her previous match, her opponent Raducanu, retired for medical reasons mid way through the second set.

This will be the first time the pair have played each other. Barty has had a Grand Slam filled with players she hasn’t played before, and this clash is no different, but Barty has the experience and confidence coming into this match. But will the pressure of a Quarterfinal, and being expected to win be too much for the world number one? While Barty’s first serve has been pretty rock solid, Tomljanović has faced a high number of break points. Barty’s experience will get her over the line here.

Tennis Pick: Set Betting Ashleigh Barty 2-0 (-165)
