Wimbledon Predictions: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Round of 16
Mon 5th July 2021

It’s the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon, with a lot of stars still left, and a number of unseeded players looking to make their mark. So, who will come out on top and make their way to the final eight? Only time will tell!

The good news is there there are still three Americans left in the draw, two on the women’s side and one on the men’s. We know who we will be cheering for. But if you are looking to make some extra coin during Wimbledon, then you have come to the right place.

We have picked our favorite six matches, three from the women’s and three from the men’s, for the Round of 16. Have a read on below to see what we think will happen. We are on fire lately, our Round Three picks did very well, we got five out of six correct, and we are hoping to back that up again this round.

With so much drama already in the first week, we are expecting more of the same again as we head into the Round of 16. Enjoy our free tennis picks and predictions for each round of the 2021 Wimbledon tournament.

Round of 16 Tennis Picks For Wimbledon: Men’s

Karen Khachanov (21) vs Sebastian Korda

Karen Khachanov takes on the only American left in the men’s draw, Sebastian Korda, in the Round of 16. This is shaping up to be an awesome clash and a massive opportunity for one of these players to make the final eight! Khachanov is in great form so far this tournament, only dropping one set in his first three matches.

Although, Khachanov has had a fairly easy trip to the Round of 16, and he is yet to face a seeded player. One of the great things about the Russian is his ability to adjust his game style to whatever gets thrown his way, which is probably why he has only dropped one set.

He will face the red hot American of Korda, who has taken out thwo seeded players to book his spot in the final 16, in De Minaur (15) and Evans (22). This will be the first time the pair will play each other, so many will be watching intently to see who will come out on top!

Both players have a very similar style of play, and both are in awesome form, so we expect a close match here. Khachanov has many a few too many unforced errors as of late, and will need to clean that up if he wants to get past Korda, who is brimming with confidence, knowing he has already outed players who were seeded higher then Khachanov in this tournament.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 3.5 (-235)

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Christian Garin (17)

The world number one, Novak Djokovic will take on the 17th seeded player in Christian Garin in the Round of 16. Djokovic has had a fairly smooth ride so far, only dropping one set. He has almost never been in a spot of bother, and his position never looked in doubt as the clear favorite to win the Championship.

Djokovic knows when it is time to step up his game, and he has the ability to go to another level, a level that very few other players have. He is vying for his 20th Grand Slam title, which would put him level with other current greats, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

His opponent is Garin, who has not had the smoothest ride into the Round of 16, playing one match that went to five sets, and two matches that went to four sets. Coming into the second week, he has got to start feeling those longer matches in his body, with fatigue coming into play. Many are shocked to see Garin make the second week, as he is believed to be more of a clay court specialist.

It’s certainly no surprise to see the world number one the clear favorite leading into this match, and for good reason too! He is the better grass court player, or just player in general, he has the experience and skill to get past Garin and make his way into yet another Quarterfinal. If the Serb can keep is focus and not leak too many unforced errors, he can get the job done in straight sets.

Tennis Pick: Novak Djokovic 3-0 (-250)

Roger Federer (6) vs Lorenzo Sonego (23)

We are so happy to see champion Roger Federer overcome his injuries and make another Round of 16 at a Grand Slam. In this round’s match he will be taking on Lorenzo Sonego. Federer hasn’t had the easiest of runs into the Round of 16, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it shows that he can grind and fight out the tough wins.

There is a lot to love about Federer’s game at the moment. Federer was not on the top of his game in the first round however, but was lucky that Mannarino had to retire hurt. His second round performance against Gasquet was much better, completely clinical. The third round was seemingly all going well, but a drop in concentration cost him the third set, he was able to bounce back quickly though, winning the match in four sets.

Sonego has had a fairly easy path to the Round of 16, but his match up against Federer will be anything but easy. On his way to the Round of 16, for the first time in his career, he has only dropped one set and has put in some pretty eye-catching performances.

The pair have played once before, with Federer leading the tally, winning in straight sets at Roland Garros in 2019. Federer is the favorite coming into this match, but you really cannot count Sonego out. Sonego has a first serve that Federer will have to keep a close eye on. While we think Federer will win the match, there are better value bets elsewhere.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 3.5 (-168)

Round of 16 Tennis Picks For Wimbledon: Women’s

Madison Keys (23) vs Viktorija Golubic

The former quarterfinalist, Madison Keys, will take on Viktorija Golubic, who is in the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. We are so excited to see Keys back in such great form, and in a women’s draw that is pretty open, she is making the most of her opportunities.

Keys has had an excellent run to the Round of 16, not dropping a single set. But what is even better is that she has come up against some tough opponents, mainly Mertens (13) in the third round, and she was still able to elevate her level and win in straight sets.

Golubic had a very close call in the first round, eventually winning 3-6, 6-1, 11-9. Since that clash, she has only dropped five games! This will be the third match in a row that her opponent will be American, and we are hoping she doesn’t break our hearts for a third time. The pair have met twice before, with the record currently locked 1-1.

The thing Keys should be leaning on here is her experience, Golubic is sure to be very nervous, being in the Round of 16 for the first time, so Keys needs to make her pay early on, to get a good head start. Golubic has got a slice that can nullify Key’s powerful groundstrokes, so it should be a good matchup.

Tennis Pick: Match Winner – Madison Keys (-215)

Ashleigh Barty (1) vs Barbora Krejčíková (14)

The world number one is still in the mix and will come across 14th seeded Barbora Krejčíková in the Round of 16. As the Australia holds the number one position, she still remains the favorite to win the Championship. After the first round, where Barty was pushed to three sets, it has been pretty smooth sailing in the next two rounds, winning both matches in straight sets.

The Australia had a great start to the year, winning three title out of the six that she entered. But since those first six tournaments, she has had injury issues following her wherever she goes. But we haven’t seen much slowing her down, so hopefully that means things are looking up for Barty and she can continue her winning ways.

No one is in hotter form than Krejčíková right now, she has got all the confidence in the world after winning both the women’s singles and doubles title at the French Open just a few weeks ago. Krejčíková will be a tough competitor for Barty to control. The pair have never met before, which player just that little bit more interest on this match.

Krejčíková is yet to face a player like Barty at Wimbledon, and both players have a great net court game, which will make for some very entertaining points. Something that Krejčíková will have to clean up on is her unforced errors, she leaked way too many in her last round, but if she can, this is going to be a close game.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 2.5 (+134)

Cori Gauff (20) vs Angelique Kerber (25)

Another American, in Cori Gauff, has made it to the Round of 16, and will look to make the final eight when she takes on Angelique Kerber. Gauff has had a pretty good grass court season so far, and she is yet to drop a set at Wimbledon so far.

Gauff has always loved playing at Wimbledon, and in 2019 she captured major international attention when she made it to the second week. Now, a much more experienced Gauff is back once again. Still just 17 years of age, she certainly has the experience of someone much older, and now has the ability to better work through problems on the court and dig out wins.

Kerber has had some pretty tough matches but has still managed to make her way through. She has faced two matches that have gone the distance, and one match she managed to win in straight sets. The pair have never played each other before, and many are interested to see how that one plays out.

There is no denying Gauff’s performance on the grass surface, but she will need to kick her game up another level if she wants to successfully make it past Kerber to book her spot in the final eight. Kerber won here at Wimbledon in 2018 so will have confidence on this type of surface as well. We don’t want to make the call on who will win, but we think it will go the distance.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 2.5 (+112)

If it's sport, Katherine has got you covered. She doesn't discriminate, and loves all sport equally, from baseball to darts, if there's a competition going on, she is all over it. Her days are filled with watching as much sport, and reading as much as she can.The biggest problem Katherine faces is that she doesn't have enough screens for all the different games she wants to watch (oh and also the lack of sleep...but that doesn't count!). She loves sport so much, she made it her career and now she can do the things she loves day in and day out.
