Wimbledon Predictions 2022: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Women’s Semifinals
Thu 7th July 2022

The grass court action has almost reached its peak as we are just two matches away from knowing who the finalists will be. The team at SportsTips.com couldn’t be more excited to preview both Semifinal clashes. Read below to check out our picks for the two intriguing clashes we have this round in the women’s side of the draw at Wimbledon for 2022!

The Semifinals at Wimbledon is upon us, and just one unseeded woman remains, Maria, while on the flip side, the top seeded woman left in the draw in the third seed, Jabeur. These two will do battle for a spot in the final. The other Semifinal battle we will see will be the 16th seed, Halep, up against the 17th seed, Rybakina.

With the draw wide open, who can take advantage and move into the Final? Will we see former Wimbledon champion, Halep, progress through? Or will we see an unseeded player crowned champion? All will be revealed soon!

Enjoy our free tennis picks and predictions for each round at Wimbledon for 2022.

Ons Jabeur (3) vs Tatjana Maria

The dream run for the top seed left in the women’s side of the draw, Ons Jabeur, continues on and she is just one match away from reaching the Final, with unseeded Tatjana Maria standing in her way. Jabeur dropped a set for the first time in the Quarterfinals, but ended up coming back and winning the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The Cinderella run for Maria is reaching new heights as she has made it to the Semifinals, along the way she has taken out the 26th, fifth and 12th seeds.

Ons Jabeur faced her first hit of adversity of the tournament in her Quarterfinal match with Marie Bouzkova when she dropped the first set 3-6. It was the first set the Tunisian had lost at Wimbledon and there was a bit of doubt put on her perfect grass record. Jabeur then responded by breaking the Czech six times over the next two sets and only losing two games in total to move on to the first major Semifinal of her career. Her opponent Tatjana Maria is also in her first Grand Slam Semifinal after also rallying from a set down to take down her compatriot Jule Niemeier in the Quarterfinals on Tuesday.

In fact, the 34-year old was down a break in the deciding set and just two games from being eliminated before she rattled off five of the final six games. It’s a truly improbable story for her as 33 of her previous 34 appearances at a Grand Slam had ended in either the first or second round. She now faces her good friend for a chance at a Wimbledon Final, with Ons leading the head to head series 2-1. I expect her to add a third win to that total and in emphatic fashion, as Jabeur has only lost two sets in the 10 grass matches she’s had this season. The talent gap is wide and I think a 6-3, 6-4 win is very likely for the world number 2.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Total Games – Under 19.5 (-154)

Ons Jabeur is going into this match as a huge favorite to advance to her first career Wimbledon Final. Ons Jabeur is one of the top favorites to win Wimbledon this year based on her ranking and recent form. The Tunisian had to come back from a set down in the Quarterfinals to defeat Marie Bouzkova 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. That was the first lost set for Jabeur so far in the tournament after she defeated Elise Mertens, Diane Parry, Katarzyna Kawa and Miriam Bjorklund in straight sets. The world no. 2 is 35-9 for the season and 10-0 on grass. She leads Maria 2-1 in their head-to-head matches with their last one being in Beijing in 2008 where Jabeur won 6-1, 6-1.

Tatiana Maria has made the best result in her career, advancing to the Wimbledon Semifinals but her journey will probably end here. She is currently 103rd in the WTA rankings with her career-best being at no. 46. The German is 39-17 for the season and 10-4 on grass. The 34-year-old is coming off comeback wins in the previous two rounds against Jule Niemeier and Jelena Ostapenko winning by 7-5 in the third sets of both matches. Previously she defeated Maria Sakkari, Sorana Cirstea and Astra Sharma. Maria’s best results this season are the titles in Bogota and Rome (USA).

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Jabeur 2-0 (-238)

Ons Jabeur is a step closer to becoming the first North African to reach a Grand Slam Final and is the current favorite for the title. Jabeur has advanced this far due to the excellent variety in her game and is unbeaten across the grass court season. The Tunisian has made no secret of her desire to lift the Wimbledon title and she should be one step closer to her dream, with a Semifinal win today. I actually thought Jabeur might become unstuck in her previous round against the vastly underrated Czech player Marie Bouzkova. Having lost the first set, the writing looked on the wall, but Jabeur showed all of her class to wear the Czech player down and in the end ran out a comfortable winner. It’s a sign of where Jabeur currently is, not just with her tennis but her conditioning and mind that she was able to come through a tricky situation with relative ease. It would be a major shock if she didn’t reach this year’s final.

On the other side of the net is Tatjana Maria. Now in the twilight of her career, Maria has produced a career-best performance to reach her first ever Grand Slam Semi Final. Maria, who as well as being a full-time tennis player is a mother of two, produced a remarkable performance to advance past her younger compatriot Jule Niemier in three sets. Maria used all of her experience and guile to turn her Quarterfinal around and deserves enormous credit for coming through that match. This is a tough match up for Maria as Jabeur plays a similar game to her, but simply does it better. The two have played three times and Jabeur leads 2-1. Both players are great friends off the court and this will be a match they cherish but Jabeur should be the one who wins.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Jabeur 2-0 (-238)

Elena Rybakina (17) vs Simona Halep (16)

The 17th and 16th seed will do battle in the Semifinal, with a spot in the Final the prize for the victor. Elena Rybakina had a battle on her hands in the Quarterfinal, losing the first set to Australian Tomljanović, but she managed to take the second and third set very comfortably. It was all smooth sailing for Simona Halep in the Quarterfinals, and for the entire tournament really, she is still yet to drop a set, and has taken out the fourth and 20th seeds along the way.

Jeffery Thomas

The 2019 Wimbledon Champion Simona Halep continued her domination of Amanda Anisimova by taking the American out in straight sets for the second time in a little over two weeks. This win was the twelfth consecutive for the former world number 1 at Wimbledon and she is the only semifinalist left to have not dropped a set. Her opponent Elena Rybakina was a part of that list as well until she dropped the first set of her Quarterfinal match with Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. The Kazakh didn’t generate a breakpoint in that set but went on to break Ajla’s serve five times as she rallied from a set down to become the first man or woman from her country to reach the Semifinal of a major.

Rybakina’s 0-2 career record in grass Semifinals is going to be a tough streak to snap against a locked-in Simona Halep who leads the head to head 2-1 (only loss a retirement) already. The experience of being on this stage is going to play a major factor on Thursday, and I expect Halep to once again hold her nerves and get this one done in two tight sets. Rybakina is a worthy opponent but her huge serve that has carried her to this point will be neutralized by one of the best returners in the game at the moment.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Halep 2-0 (-125)

The 2019 Wimbledon champion, Simona Halep, is close to another chance to play for a Grand Slam title. The former world no. 1 is coming off an easy 6-2, 6-4 win over Amanda Anisimova in the Quarterfinals. Previously, the Romanian went past Paola Badosa, Magdalena Frech, Kirsten Flipkens and Karolina Muchova. Halep is currently at no. 18 in the WTA standings, and is 31-8 for the season and 11-1 on grass. She leads Rybakina 2-1 in their previous matches, winning the most recent one last year at the US Open 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Elena Rybakina has made it to her first Grand Slam Semifinal after a comeback win in the Quarterfinals against Ajla Tomljanovic. Previously in Wimbledon, she defeated Petra Martic, Qinwen Zheng, Bianca Vanessa and Coco Vandeweghe. The Kazakh is 23rd in the WTA rankings right now with no. 12 being her career-high. Rybakina is 25-12 for the season and 5-2 on grass. Her best result this season was the Final in Adelaide where she lost to Ashleigh Barty.

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Match Winner – Halep (-333)

Simona Halep has rolled back the clock over the course of the Wimbledon fortnight and looks back to her best. Now coached by guru Patrick Mouratoglu, Halep cited the appointment of Mouratoglou as a statement of her desire to return back into the winners circle of the world’s biggest tournaments. She is certainly close here. The best counter puncher on the WTA Tour, Halep is able to overcome powerful players with her consistency and movement. This was seen to no finer effect during her straight sets victory over Amanda Anisimova in the Quarterfinals. This is the first time that Halep has competed at SW19 since she was able to win the title back in 2019 and is currently on a 12 match unbeaten streak. This is another dream matchup for the Romanian and she has a great chance of reaching another Grand Slam Final.

Standing in Halep’s way is the uber talented Elena Rybakina. This is the furthest that Rybakina has advanced in a Grand Slam and it isn’t a surprise that her breakthrough has come on the slick grass of Wimbledon. Tall and rangy, the Kazakh has one of the best serves on Tour and she used that serve to full effect as she overcame the tricky challenge of Ajla Tomljanovic in three tight sets. The set she lost was the first set she had lost in this year’s Championships. The two have squared off three times and Halep leads 2-1, the last meeting between the two was at last year’s US Open, a contest that Halep won in three sets. Halep should have too much grass court experience for Rybakina and this is a match I expect the Romanian to win.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Halep 2-0 (-125)
