We have reached the final day at Wimbledon for 2022, and this year we will see unseeded Australian, Nick Kyrgios, face off against the number one seed, Novak Djokovic. Kyrgios has been resting for a couple of days now, after Nadal pulled out of their Semifinal clash before a ball was even hit.

For Djokovic, he successfully overcame the local fan favorite, Norrie, to book his spot in yet another Grand Slam Final. Djokovic lost the first set against Norrie, 2-6, but was then able to win the next three sets fairly comfortably to win the match.

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Nick Kyrgios

Just two players remain on the men’s side of the draw, the number one seed, Novak Djokovic, and unseeded Australian, Nick Kyrgios, who will be playing in his first ever Grand Slam Final. Djokovic has dropped five sets so far on his way to the Final, and had to make a comeback in the Quarterfinals, where he was two sets down to 10th seed, Sinner. Kyrgios has also dropped five sets so far at The Championships, and he has played two five set matches, one in the first round and another in the Round of 16.

Novak Djokovic is going after his seventh Wimbledon title and will have to face an opponent that he has never defeated before. The Serbian is two Grand Slam titles behind Rafael Nadal on the all-time list and will have a chance to get closer to him. World no. 3 is coming off a routine Semifinal win over Cameron Noorie even though the Brit won the opening set. Djokovic had a much tougher task in the Quarterfinals when he got back from two sets down against Jannik Sinner. Previously, Djokovic defeated Tim Van Rijthoven, Miomir Kecmanovic, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Soon-woo Kwon. Djokovic is 23-5 for the season and 7-0 on grass.

Nick Kyrgios has defeated Djokovic in the two previous matches against him in 2017 in straight sets. The Aussie had an easier way to his first Grand Slam Final after Rafael Nadal withdrew from the match with an injury. Kyrgios previously defeated Cristian Garin, Brandon Nakashima, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Filip Krajinovic and Paul Jubb. He is 21-6 for the season and 12-2 on grass.

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Match Winner – Djokovic (-350)

After two weeks of intense tennis, the men’s Final at this year’s Wimbledon is upon us and it’s set to be a cracker as Novak Djokovic takes on Nick Kygrios. Djokovic is bidding to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title and his sixth in the last seven years. A grass court great, it’s been a mixed tournament for the Serb who at various stages has struggled and looked vulnerable. Ominously for Kyrgios fans, during Djokovic’s Semifinal victory over Cam Norrie he looked supreme as he battled back from a set down. The Serbian looked back to his best, he eliminated the mistakes, returned superbly and looked comfortable in his movement. If all of these components can be brought into the Final it could be a long day for the enigmatic Aussie. The tennis world was crushed when it learnt of Rafa Nadal’s stomach tear, but Kygrios will be looking to take full advantage of the additional rest he has received by beating Djokovic and winning his first Grand Slam singles title.

Unmistakably known as the ‘The Wildcard’ of tennis, fans of Kygrios believe that this moment should have arrived years ago. Regarded by some as a stain on the game, his third round matchup against Stefanos Tsitsipas showed the Aussie at his worst. Despite coming through an ill-tempered match, Kygrios was later accused of being ‘evil’ and a ‘bully’. Since that dramatic third round encounter, Kygrios’s demeanor has changed and he has been nothing but professional. He has also shown fighting characteristics that we usually wouldn’t associate with him. Twice he has battled through five set contests with the most impressive of these being his fourth round victory over Brandon Nakashima. Despite being the underdog for the Final, Kygrios has never lacked self belief and heads into the Final with a winning record against Djokovic. The  two haven’t played since 2017, but Kygrios leads the series 2-0 and hasn’t dropped a set to the Serbian. That will change here and it’s Djokovic who will edge what could be a classic.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Djokovic 3-1 (+250)
