Free NHL Picks Today for Saturday, March 13th, 2021
Sat 13th March 2021

We had another successful day yesterday, going 11/15 picks, and we are gonna do it all again today. With 12 games on today our Saturday is well and truly sorted, have a read through to see our NHL picks.

New York Rangers @ Boston Bruins – 1.00PM EST

The Rangers and the Bruins met on Thursday in the first game of a 2 match series in Boston, with the Bruins walking away with the win in comfortable fashion, shutting the Rangers out 4-0.

Both teams entered the game on a 2 match loss streak, the Rangers now see that extend to 3 as the gap between them and a playoff position extends to 9 points.

The Bruins scored within the first 5 minutes of the first term, and were up 4-0 by the start of the third, Brad Marchand had a hand in 3 of the 4 goals in a very impressive performance.

The win didn’t come through a lack of trying on the part of the Rangers, who were level with the Bruins for shots with 27, luckily Jaroslav Halak was there in net to stop each attempt.

The two sides have now met 5 times this season, the Bruins have lost just one of those encounters, with an aggregate score of 14-9.

NHL Pick – Boston Bruins (-181)
Spread Pick – Boston Bruins -1.5 (+140)
Total Goals Pick – Under 5.5 (-120)

Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets – 5.00PM EST

The Stars couldn’t get over the Blackhawks for a second time in their 2 match home series, losing 4-2 on Thursday after beating them by a convincing 6-1 on Tuesday.

Looking like a different team to the one that played just two days earlier, the Stars conceded 4 of their first 8 shots they faced and found themselves 4-0 down just 16 minutes into the second term.

It just didn’t seem to happen for the Stars, sending 30 shots the way of the Blackhawks, who were far more clinical, making just 16 shots for the game.

The Stars have had some good performances over the last few games but there is still lots of work that needs to be done, they have played the Blue Jackets on 4 occasions this season, winning 2.

The Blue Jackets were swept by the Panthers over 2 games, losing the most recent match in overtime on Thursday, bringing their loss streak to 3 games ahead of this important clash with the Stars.

The loss would be painful for the players, who were up 4-1 with just 15 minutes to play, going on to concede 3 goals in 10 minutes to take the game to overtime.

25 year old Oliver Bjorkstrand is enjoying one of his best seasons, scoring twice and making an assist for the Blue Jackets, now leading the team for points with 10 goals and 12 assists

NHL Pick – Columbus Blue Jackets (+110)
Spread Pick – Columbus Blue Jackets +1.5 (-250)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (+115)

Montreal Canadiens @ Calgary Flames – 7.00PM EST

The Canadiens went to Calgary on Thursday to face the Flames who were playing their first game under former coach, Darryl Sutter. The Canadiens lost 2-1 to give Sutter his first win for the club since 2006.

The two mid table sides face off again today, the fourth meeting between the clubs this season, so far Calgary have won two of the three games played.

The Canadiens were kept quiet by the Flames, only making 19 shots for the game, well under their average of 33 shots on goal per game, and were kept goalless until halfway through the third.

It was a win of massive importance to the Flames players, and for coach Darryl Sutter, getting off to a good start as they hope to turn their season around having lost 3/10 previous games before Sutter stepped in.

Josh Leivo scored the only goals for the Canadiens during a dominant second term performance, and both were assisted by Derek Ryan and Sam Bennett.

NHL Pick – Calgary Flames (-105)
Spread Pick – Calgary Flames +1.5 (-263)
Total Goals Pick – Under 6.5 (-166)

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Buffalo Sabres – 7.00PM EST

The Pittsburgh Penguins went to Buffalo to play the Sabres for the first time this season, picking up their 4th straight victory with a solid 5-2 victory to put them up to 3rd on the East Division table.

It was an all round solid performance across the team for the Penguins, with multiple point contributors, and only Evgeni Malkin with 2, scoring a goal and assisting the goal to put them ahead in the second.

With 7 wins from their previous 10, the Penguins have established themselves as one of the stronger teams in this highly competitive division.

The nightmare continues for the Sabres, who saw the loss streak extend to 9 games, of which they have failed to even look competitive for the most part, losing 6 of those games by a margin of 3 goals.

They did manage to come back from a 1 goal deficit in both the first and second term, but had no answer when the Penguins scored in the third, giving them their 4th 5-2 defeat in 5 games.

Still without their captain, Jack Eichel, who leads the team for assists, their chances of getting a win today don’t look much better than they did on Thursday.

NHL Pick – Pittsburgh Penguins (-222)
Spread Pick – Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 (+115)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-171)

Chicago Blackhawks @ Florida Panthers – 7.00PM EST

The Blackhawks got some revenge over the Dallas Stars on Thursday following their embarrassing 6-1 blowout in the days before, this time winning 4-2 to prevent a 3 loss streak.

It was a clinical performance from the Blackhawks, who only managed to take 16 shots for the game compared to the Stars’ 30, scoring at a rate of 25%.

They took their feet off the gas in the third term though, conceding 2 unanswered goals to give the Stars a chance to get back into the game.

The Panthers head into this game after most recently sweeping the Columbus Blue Jackets away from home over 2 games, with the most recent game finishing 5-4 in overtime.

The win was nothing short of epic for the Panthers, coming back from 4-1 down 5 minutes into the final term. Aleksander Barkov scored the equaliser during a power play late in the 3rd to force the overtime, and Frank Vatrano completed the overtime 2 minutes into overtime.

Today’s meeting will be the third game between the Blackhawks and Panthers this season, the Panthers have won the previous 2 and this one is once again played in Florida.

NHL Pick – Florida Panthers (-156)
Spread Pick – Florida Panthers -1.5 (+145)
Total Goals Pick – Over 6 (-105)

New York Islanders @ New Jersey Devils – 7.00PM EST

The Islanders make the short trip to Jersey to face the Devils today following their 5-3 victory over them in New York on Thursday.

The win keeps the Islanders impressive form going, extending their streak to 7 games, with 9 wins over their last 10 they remain atop the West Division table.

Welcoming back fans for the first time in just over a year, the Islanders put on a performance for the city’s frontline workers, scoring 4 unanswered goals over the first two terms.

Having played at home for 9 out of their last 10 games, the Islanders will now play 7 of their next 9 on the road where they have not been as convincing this season, their away record is currently 5-6-2.

Having won just 2 games from their last 8 the Devils slump continues, if it were not for the Sabres they would be well on track for another dead last place finish.

They looked stronger in the third term, scoring 3 goals, however the damage had already been done by conceding 4 goals in the first two terms.

You would think that the prospect of now hosting the Islanders would be favourable to playing in New York again, but the Devils have won just 2 home games from 12 this season.

NHL Pick – New York Islanders (-166)
Spread Pick – New York Islanders -1.5 (+160)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (+105)

Washington Capitals @ Philadelphia Flyers – 7.00PM EST

The Capitals play the Flyers in Philadelphia for the third time in 4 games today, and having won the previous 2 meetings they will be confident heading into this one.

Their most recent match ended 5-3 and for the most part it was pretty smooth sailing for the Capitals, comfortably 4-1 up heading into the third term before the Flyers made them sweat, bringing the margin to just 1 goal with 10 minutes to play, but Alex Ovechkin put the game to bed with just 1 minute to play.

It was the 715th goal of Ovechkin’s legendary career with the Washington Capitals spanning back to 2005, Ovechkin is now just 3 goals away from claiming 6th place on the all time goal scorers list.

The Flyers find themselves in 5th place having won just 2 of their last 6 games, they will be desperate to salvage a game and prevent a sweep by the Capitals today.

At times going on solid runs this season, with a 4 win streak and 3 win streak already recorded this season, the Flyers have struggled lately, only just getting the job done against the Sabres in a shootout.

After 24 games, James Riemsdyk still leads the Flyers for points with 27, however, he had 26 points after his 19th game, only contributing 1 point in his last 5 games.

NHL Pick – Washington Capitals (-105)
Spread Pick – Washington Capitals +1.5 (-243)
Total Goals Pick – Over 6.0 (-116)

Nashville Predators @ Tampa Bay Lightning – 7.00PM EST

The Predators wrapped up their 2 match road trip against the Hurricanes, losing the first game in 3-2 in overtime to put an end to their unbeaten overtime record this season, followed by a blowout 5-1 defeat on Thursday.

The Preds are 4-5-1 over their last 10, with an overall record of 11-15-1, 10 points away from a playoff position. Their chances for a win don’t look too promising, as they get ready for two games against the Lightning in Tampa, they are 0-4 against the Lightning this season, losing with an aggregate score of 19-7.

The Lightning took a surprising defeat to the last place Detroit Red Wings, after just beating them days earlier in a close overtime match it was expected that the Lightning would come back out better.

Ondrej Palat scored for the Lightning and had a hand in 2 more goals, but after the first term they never looked in the game again, looking uncharacteristically poor in defense as they conceded 6 goals for just the second time this season.

NHL Pick – Tampa Bay Lightning (-270)
Spread Pick – Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (-105)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-125)

Winnipeg Jets @ Toronto Maple Leafs – 7.00PM EST

The Jets and Maple Leafs gear up to play the final match of their 3 game series in Toronto, it has so far been nothing short of intense between the two sides, winning one a piece over two games.

After finishing 3-3 in regulation time on Thursday, they went to overtime where Auston Matthews scored within a minute to give the Maple Leafs the win, he finished the game with 2 points along with Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly.

It was just the Jets third defeat in their last 10 games, currently sitting tied in second place with the Edmonton Oilers but 6 points off the Maple Leafs in first.

Nikolaj Ehlers now leads the Jets for goal scoring this season following his impressive 2 goals performance on Thursday, his 5th point in just 2 games.

The two teams have looked quite even ahead of the deciding match of the series, however the Maple Leafs outshot them comfortably in both fixtures.

NHL Pick – Toronto Maple Leafs (-181)
Spread Pick – Winnipeg Jets +1.5 (-156)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-172)

Vegas Golden Knights @ St Louis Blues – 8.00PM EST

The Golden Knights snapped out of their losing ways with a thrilling overtime win over the Blues yesterday, extending the Blues losing streak to 3 games in the process.

The Knights had 5 different scorers for the game, but it was Reilly Smith’s power play goal that denied the Blues comeback and got them the well deserved win.

The Knights remain at the top of the West Division table following their victory, just two points above the Minnesota Wild who also won their game against the Coyotes.

The Blues came close to completing an epic comeback, coming back from 3-1 down in the second term, and even taking the lead briefly in the third before conceding a goal by Alec Martinez.

The match kept on trend with their home performances this season, bringing their home record to 4-6-2 compared to a stellar away record of 10-2-2, they are now 1-1 with the Golden Knights this season.

NHL Pick – Vegas Golden Knights (-116)
Spread Pick – Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 (+210)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-120)

San Jose Sharks @ Anaheim Ducks – 10.00PM EST

The Sharks and the Ducks met yesterday, the first of a 2 game series in Anaheim which the Sharks won convincingly, shutting the Ducks out with a 6-0 win.

It was the second win on the trot for the Sharks, who have now swapped places with the Ducks in 2nd last place on the West Division table.

The points were shared amongst the Sharks, with 4 players picking up 2 points, including the hero of their game against the Blues, Evander Kane, and 3 points for Kevin Labanc to bring his season total to 13.

Devan Dubnyk went huge in net, making 34 saves to keep the Ducks goalless, earning both the Sharks, and his first shutout for the season.

The shutout makes it 2 losses on the trot for the Ducks as they slip back into the all too familiar last place on the table with just two wins from their last 10 games.

They will feel hard done by as they outshot the Sharks 34-27 but were unable to find the back of the net, a problem that has plagued them all season, with a goals scored per game average of just 2.26.

Yesterday’s meeting was the 4th between the Ducks and the Sharks this season, and the Sharks have now won 3 of them, with an aggregate score of 15-8 over each game.

NHL Pick – San Jose Sharks (-116)
Spread Pick – San Jose Sharks -1.5 (+210)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-116)

Edmonton Oilers @ Vancouver Canucks – 10.00PM EST

The Oilers rolled over the Senators 6-2 yesterday, putting an end to a three game home series in which the Oilers went undefeated.

They have now strung together 4 wins in a row and seem to have put their miserable showing against the Maple Leafs behind them, having only lost to the Canucks once from 4 games this season the Oilers will be confident in keeping the streak going.

It was unsurprisingly the Connor McDavid show once again, scoring a goal and assisting two more to give him his 8th point across 3 games against the Senators alongside Leon Draisaitl who also picked up 8 points.

The Canucks had their own 3 win streak halted by the Montreal Canadiens, losing 5-1 in a blowout game that played out much differently to their previous meeting.

They now find themselves in 2nd last place in North following the Flames victory over the Canadiens on Thursday. The result of an up and down season which has seen them go from a 4 win streak into a 6 loss streak, and more recently a 4 loss streak into a 3 win streak.

Working in their favour this fixture is the fortuitous position of facing an Oilers team who are playing on back to back days, however, with the quality of their side it may not matter.

NHL Pick – Edmonton Oilers (-125)
Spread Pick – Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (+175)
Total Goals Pick – Over 6 (-120)
