Alex Faedo is lined up to make his first start of the season as the Detroit Tigers (15-17) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (10-24) at Busch Stadium on Sunday with the visitors eyeing a sweep of the three-game Interleague series.
The Tigers lead the series 2-0 after winning 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday, their fifth straight victory overall. Reliever Jose Cisnero was credited with the win after throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.
Riley Greene was 3 for 5 with a double, one run, and one RBI in the win, extending his hit streak to 10 games. Nick Maton added a double and one run. Lars Nootbaar went 3 for 4 with one run for the Cardinals.
ON THE MOUND
Faedo is slated to take the mound for Detroit, his season debut. Last season, the right-hander made 12 starts and went 1-5 with a 5.53 ERA. He had 44 strikeouts and 25 walks over 53.2 innings. Southpaw Steven Matz (0-4, 6.39 ERA) will take the mound for St. Louis.
It’s his first appearance of the season against the Tigers. In his last start on Tuesday, Matz took the loss at home against the Angels. He threw five innings and gave up four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two in the 5-1 defeat.
