Clarke Schmidt (2-6, 4.32 ERA) is slated to take the mound for New York. The righty allowed one run (zero earned) over 5.1 innings in his last start, a 4-2 road defeat against the Rangers on Friday.

RHP James Kaprielian (2-6, 6.34 ERA) gets the start for Oakland. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Yankees. Kaprielian made one start against the Yankees in 2022, throwing 2.2 innings in a 13-4 home defeat on August 25.
He gave up seven hits and walked six while striking out two in the loss. In his last start on Friday, Kaprielian took a no-decision on the road against the Blue Jays. He threw six innings and gave up four runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking one in the 5-4 victory.
