A pair of hot hitters are set to face off when the Washington Nationals (23-31) take on the Los Angeles Dodgers (33-22) at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, as Freddie Freeman and his 18-game hitting streak host Lane Thomas and his 14-game streak.
The Dodgers took Monday’s series opener 6-1. Bobby Miller went six innings for the win, allowing one run on four hits.
J.D. Martinez’s hitting streak is now at 13 games as he went 1 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in the win. CJ Abrams was 1 for 3 with one RBI for the Nationals.
ON THE MOUND
Jake Irvin (1-2, 5.32 ERA) is set to get the start for Washington. The right-hander allowed two runs over four innings in his last start, an 8-6 road defeat against the Padres on Thursday. He gave up two hits while striking out four and walking four in the no-decision.
For Los Angeles, RHP Tony Gonsolin (2-1, 1.82 ERA) will toe the rubber. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Nationals. Gonsolin made one start against the Nationals in 2022, throwing six innings in a 4-1 home defeat on July 25.
He gave up six hits and walked three, while striking out four in the loss. In his last start on Wednesday, Gonsolin took a no-decision on the road against the Braves. He threw 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits, striking out four and walking two in the 4-3 defeat.
