Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds – 2:10PM ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds will be playing the first game of a quick one day doubleheader series. They have met twice this season and the Reds currently lead the season series four games to three. The winner of this game will be looking to complete the sweep in game two as well.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are coming into the first game of this quick doubleheader series after splitting a two game series with the New York Yankees. They come into this game with a record of 33-47 through their first 80 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in fourth place of the National League Central division as they trail the Brewers by twelve games at the moment. They are stuck in an endless cycle of rebuilding it seems and this is yet another lost year for the Pirates. 

The Cincinnati Reds are the only team in the National League Central division who sit below the Pittsburgh Pirates in the standings. The Reds are having a miserable season and they come into this game with a record of 28-53 through their first 81 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball. They have lost six out of their last ten games on the year and are currently on a one game losing streak. I have them losing game one of this doubleheader as well.

The Pittsburgh Pirates got a surprising win in the opening game of their two-game interleague series with the New York Yankees but they could not back it up on Wednesday. The Yankees bounced back in a big way, running away with the game and sending the Pirates to 15 games under .500 (33-48). The only team under Pittsburgh in the NL Central is their opponents for this doubleheader on Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds. 

The Reds also suffered a loss to a New York team, losing 8-3 in 10 innings to the Mets. The Reds are throwing Mike Minor on the mound for the opening game of the doubleheader and nothing good usually comes from that. He is just 1-5 in the season and has given up at least 4 earned runs in every start this season except two. I’m rolling with the Pirates who are slightly more competent than Cincinnati who is the worst team in the National League record-wise.

The Cincinnati Reds are at the bottom of the NL Central with a 28-53 record. They have lost 6 of the last 8 games and are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the New York Mets. Cincinnati is 18th in the league scoring 4.37 runs per game and is ranked 30th in the league allowing 5.71 runs per game. The Reds will start Mike Minor tonight who is 1-5 for the season with a 6.82 ERA. Cincinnati has lost 5 of the last 7 home games against a team with a losing record and 5 of the last 6 games against NL Central opponents.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are fourth in the NL Central with a 33-48 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 0-16 loss to the New York Yankees. Washington Nationals @ Philadelphia Phillies – 4:05PM ET

The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies will be playing the third and final game of their three game series in this one. In game number one it was the Phillies who picked up the victory. In game number two the Nationals bounced back with a win to even the series.

The Washington Nationals got a huge victory over the Philadelphia Phillies to even up this series at one game a piece. The Nationals are in the middle of a very rough season as they come into this game with a record of 30-54 through their first 84 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. The Nationals have lost six out of their last ten games on the year but are currently on a one game winning streak. 

The Philadelphia Phillies are having a decent year up until this point as they come into this game with a record of 43-39 through their first 82 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are on a one game losing streak but have won six out of their last ten games on the year. They are currently in third place of the National League East division as they trail the New York Mets by eight games. As for the result of this game I have them picking up the win to clinch the series victory.

Wednesday’s win for the Washington Nationals was their first in the month of July and put an end to their six-game losing streak. It was a 3-2 result on the road over the Philadelphia Phillies who could not produce any offense outside of two solo home runs from Kyle Schwarber. It was the complete opposite of Philly’s offense on Tuesday where they put up 11 runs in the shutout victory and now their eyes are set on the finale against Joan Adon. 

Adon is 1-11 on the year with a 6.97 and he has not recorded a win since back on April 19 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is the perfect bounce-back game for the Phillies and I expect a beat down in front of their home fans in this finale.

The Philadelphia Phillies are third in the NL East with a 43-39 record. They have won 4 of the last 6 games and are coming off a 2-3 loss last night to the Nationals. The Phillies are 3rd in the league scoring 4.91 runs per game and 13th in the league allowing 4.32 runs per game. Bailey Falter will be the Phillies’ starter tonight who is 0-2 for the season with a 4.88 ERA. Philadelphia has won 5 of the last 7 games against teams with a losing record under 40% and 7 of the last 10 games against teams from the NL East.

The Washington Nationals are at the bottom of the NL East with a 30-54 record. They won last night against the Phillies which put an end to their six-game losing streak. The Nationals are 26th in the league scoring 4.02 runs per game and are 29th in the league allowing 5.59 runs per game. Washington will start Joan Adon tonight who is 1-11 for the season with a 6.97 ERA. The Nationals have lost 21 of the last 29 road games against teams with a losing record and 8 of the last 9 road games against right-handed starter.

Miami Marlins @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

The Miami Marlins and New York Mets will be playing the first game of their four game weekend series in this one. These two National League East teams have met twice this season. The New York Mets currently lead the season series five games to two.

The Miami Marlins are coming into this game with a record of 39-41 through their first 80 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in fourth place of the National League East division as they are eleven games behind the New York Mets. They are currently on a one game losing streak but they have won seven out of their last ten games on the season. As they will be looking to grab a win over the division leading Mets in this one. 

The New York Mets are coming into this game with a record of 51-31 through their first 82 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have won five out of their last five games on the year and currently on a one game winning streak. They have been one of the best teams in Major League Baseball all season long. However, I have them losing in this opener.

The New York Mets did not give Max Scherzer any run support in his return on Tuesday but made up for that in the finale on Wednesday by scoring a total of eight runs. They needed extra innings to get the last five runs but nonetheless they got them and secured a nice 8-3 road victory over the Cincinnati Reds. It was the third win in four days for New York as they now return home to face a Miami Marlins team that has won six out of seven games.

 That one loss was in their last game, a 5-2 result in the finale of their series with the Los Angeles Angels. The Marlins will have the momentum advantage in this game along with a pitching advantage as the Mets starter Trevor Williams is just 1-5 with a 4.34 ERA. This line is too heavily tilted towards the Mets and I think Miami can easily keep this one close or even win it outright.

The New York Mets are on top of the NL East with a 51-31 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets are 4th in the league scoring 4.85 runs per game and are ranked 10th in the league allowing 4.06 runs per game. Trevor WIlliams will start for the Mets tonight who is 1-5 for the season with a 4.34 ERA. The Mets have won 22 of the last 28 opening games of a series at home and have lost the last 4 games against left-handed starters.

The Miami Marlins are fourth in the NL East with a 39-41 record. They have won 6 of the last 7 games and are coming off a 1-1 series split against the Los Angeles Angels. Miami is ranked 16th in the league scoring 4.44 runs per game and 10th in the league allowing 4.06 runs per game. Daniel Castano will start for the Marlins tonight who is 1-1 for the season with a 2.42 ERA. Miami has won 6 of the last 7 games played on Thursday and have lost 47 of the last 68 opening games of a series.

St.Louis Cardinals @ Atlanta Braves – 7:20PM ET

The St.Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves will be playing the fourth and final game of their four game weekend series in this one. The Braves have already clinched a share of the series after winning the first two games. In game number three added another win to clinch the series victory.

The St.Louis Cardinals come into this game in second place of the National League Central division. As they currently have a record of 44-40 through their first 84 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. The Cardinals have been playing solid Baseball so far this season as they have a nice mix of veterans and young players carrying the load. They are currently on a four game losing streak and have lost seven out of their last ten games on the season. 

The Atlanta Braves come into this game with a record of 49-34 through their first 83 games. They are in a solid spot halfway through the 2022 Major League Baseball season as they have a legitimate shot to repeat as World Series champions. They are currently on a three game winning streak and have won seven out of their last ten games on the season. As for the result of this game I have them getting the victory.

The Atlanta Braves have enjoyed their return back home and are taking care of business in this series with the slumping St. Louis Cardinals. The Braves have outscored the Cards 16-4 in the first three games of this series after their shutout 3-0 win on Wednesday evening. Max Fried threw six innings in the victory to get his record to 9-2 and keep the Braves within arms length of the New York Mets for first place in the division. 

On Thursday they will go for the four-game sweep and be reliant on Spencer Strider who hasn’t been hit with a loss since the end of May. The head-to-head between these teams has been dominated by Atlanta before this series and a win here would be #8 in a row and there’s no reason to not think it will happen. These two teams are heading in opposite directions and I’m rolling with the hot team at home yet again.

The Braves are 5th in the league scoring 4.78 runs per game and are ranked 8th in the league allowing 4.04 runs per game. The Braves will start Spencer Strider tonight who is 4-2 for the season with a 2.87 ERA. Atlanta has won 9 of the last 10 games against left-handed starter and 4 of the last 5 games against teams with a winning record.

San Francisco Giants @ San Diego Padres – 9:40PM ET

The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres will be playing the first game of their four game weekend series in this one. These two National League West teams have met once this season. The San Diego Padres currently lead the season series three games to zero.

The San Francisco Giants are coming into this game with a record of 41-39 through their first 80 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are in third place of the National League West division at the moment. They are currently on a one game winning streak but are slumping a bit as they have lost seven out of their last ten games. The Giants have struggled this season after being the best team in all of Major League Baseball in the regular season last year. 

The San Diego Padres have controlled the season series against the San Francisco Giants after a single series. They come into this game with a record of 47-36 through their first 83 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are in a bit of a slump at the moment as they are on a two game losing streak and have lost eight out of their last ten games on the season. As for the result of this game I am going with the Padres to get the win despite their recent struggles.

The slumping San Diego Padres got a much needed day off after losing 8 of their last 10 games. That string of losses now has them 5.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place after having that spot themselves at points last month. They still have a 5 game lead on the third-place team in the NL West, which is the Giants who are their opponents for this series. This game has all the makings of a pitching duel and you can see that in the total which is set at just 6.5. 

However, with a total that low it would be ridiculous to not at least look at taking the over. Both teams just getting to three would guarantee this to hit because someone would have to get that 7th run to win the game. Joe Musgrove gave up six runs alone two outings ago so it’s not like he’s not invincible so I am trusting my gut and taking the over in what will surely be hitter-friendly conditions out in California.

The San Diego Padres are second in the NL West with a 47-36 record. They have lost 5 of the last 6 games and came into this series after a 0-2 series loss to the Seattle Mariners. The Padres are 14th in the league scoring 4.47 runs per game and are 5th in the league allowing 3.89 runs per game. San Diego will start Joe Musgrove tonight who is 8-2 for the season with a 2.25 ERA. The Padres have won 6 of the last 7 games following a day off and have lost 18 of the last 26 home games against teams with a winning record.

The San Francisco Giants are third in the NL West with a 41-39 record. They snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. The Giants are 6th in the league scoring 4.75 runs per game and are ranked 20th in the league allowing 4.51 runs per game. They will start Logan Webb tonight who is 7-5 for the season with a 3.13 ERA. San Francisco has won 71 of the last 105 games when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game and have lost 4 of the last 5 road games.
