Less than 36 hours out from the 2021 PGA Championship, 156 of the world’s best golfers are about to tee-off at the long and windy Ocean Course on Kiawah Island.
Take a look at our Best Bets for the the 2021 PGA Championship below:
Best Bet To Win The 2021 PGA Championship
Dustin Johnson (+1800)
Although he missed the cut at the most recent Masters and has not registered a top 10 finish in three months, we are not going to overreact to Dustin Johnson’s form in 2021 as he’s still the No. 1 golfer in the world. DJ finished runner-up in his last two PGA Championship starts at Bethpage Black and TPC Harding Park, and there is not a player on the tour that has been better than Johnson on courses constructed by Pete Dye through their last 50 rounds.

While his iron play has not been up to his high standards so far this season, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island will allow Johnson to lean on his driver more than usual. This will give Johnson more opportunities to utilise his wedges as opposed to his mid/long irons. Although many would look at the 7,800 yard course and presume that the long hitting Bryson DeChambeau would be the better bet, the wind is always a big factor at Kiawah Island. Johnson is still arguably the longest player in the world when he really wants to launch the ball and his elite ability to accurately control long drives will leave him in good stead this weekend.
Best Bet For A Top Five Finish At The 2021 PGA Championship
Jordan Spieth (+280)
Jordan Spieth will come into this weekend’s event at Kiawah Island looking to become the seventh player in golf’s history to win a career Grand Slam. Although Johnson still holds the No. 1 ranking, Spieth has arguably been the best player in the world throughout the 2021 season. So far this year Spieth has competed in nine events, finishing inside the top 15 on seven occasions, top 10 on six occasions and top five on five occasions to go along with his victory at the Valero Texas Open in April.

Spieth has always possessed a great short game which will serve him well at Kiawah Island this weekend, as many of the approach shots are tough enough to unravel the best golfers in the world. If he can utilise his driver as well as he did at last month’s Masters event at Augusta National (T3), Spieth will be well positioned to win the event and capture the elusive Grand Slam. However, whether his long game is capable of handling the long and windy Ocean Course is the million dollar question. One thing we do know for sure is that Jordan Spieth is a contender to win it all this weekend and a great pick for a top five finish.
Best Bet For A Top 10 Finish At The 2021 PGA Championship
Abraham Ancer (+450)
Like Dustin Johnson, Abraham Ancer is also a Peter Dye course specialist. However unlike DJ, Ancer will enter this weekend’s tournament with some great form behind him. No, we aren’t suggesting that Abraham Ancer is going to win the PGA Championship or even do better than the world No. 1, but he must be considered as a potential top 10 finisher.

Ancer is not the type of player that will be driving long this weekend, however that is not necessarily to his detriment given the windy conditions that often affect golfers at Kiawah Island. With a solid and accurate game, Ancer ranks third in fairways gained and second in good drives gained over the previous 50 rounds, which means he should be hitting it from the fairway more often than not. Having finished 2nd and 5th at the Wells Fago and Valspar Championships in his last two starts, we think Ancer’s form and his ability to handle the conditions will steer him to a top 10 finish at Kiawah Island this weekend.
