The No. 4 UCLA Bruins (22-4, 13-2 Pac-12), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, play host to the California Golden Bears (3-23, 2-13 Pac-12) on Saturday. California was dominated by the USC Trojans 97-60 at Galen Center on Thursday, their 10th loss in a row.
With 13 points, Monty Bowser was the leading scorer in the losing effort. The Golden Bears are 12th in the Pac-12 Conference. UCLA won their fifth in a row on Thursday at Pauley Pavilion, beating the Stanford Cardinal 73-64. Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 26 points and nine rebounds, leading the team.
The Bruins remain first in the Pac-12 Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. UCLA won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was an 81-57 triumph at Pauley Pavilion in January 2022, their 10th straight head-to-head victory.
Jaquez Jr. led the Bruins with 15 points. Sam Alajiki had 11 points in defeat. The Golden Bears have been led this season by Lars Thiemann and Kuany Kuany, who are averaging 10.0 and 9.0 points per game, respectively. Thiemann also has grabbed 5.8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Joel Brown is dishing 3.0 assists per game. Jaquez Jr. (16.7 ppg) has supplied much of the Bruins’ offense.
