The Arizona State Sun Devils (20-9, 11-7 Pac-12) will try to overcome one of the nation’s top scoring defenses when they travel to face the No. 4 UCLA Bruins (25-4, 16-2 Pac-12) on Thursday. Arizona State narrowly defeated the Arizona Wildcats 89-88 at McKale Memorial Center on Saturday, their third win in a row away from home.
Desmond Cambridge Jr. was the standout player with 19 points. The Sun Devils remain fourth in the Pac-12 Conference. UCLA won their eighth in a row on Sunday at CU Events Center, beating the Colorado Buffaloes 60-56.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 17 to lead the team in scoring. With 14 points and six rebounds, Tyger Campbell also played a part. The Bruins remain first in the Pac-12 Conference. It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams. After taking the only previous season game against Arizona State 74-62 at Desert Financial Arena on January 19, UCLA will be aiming for a season sweep.
Campbell led the Bruins with 22 points, while David Singleton played a key role with 21 points. Cambridge Jr. had 15 points in the loss. The Sun Devils have been led this season by Cambridge Jr. and DJ Horne, who are averaging 12.9 and 11.3 points per game, respectively.
Meanwhile, Warren Washington is grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game, and Frankie Collins is dishing 4.4 assists. Jaquez Jr.’s 17.0 points per game have powered the Bruins on offense. Jaquez Jr. also has collected 8.0 rebounds per game. Campbell has doled out 4.7 assists per game.
The Bruins are holding opponents to 59.7 points per game, ranking as one of the toughest scoring defenses in the NCAA (7th). Arizona State is 5-5 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -0.9 (68.5-69.4).
