The No. 5 Texas Longhorns (19-5, 8-3 Big 12), one of the country’s top scoring teams, play host to the West Virginia Mountaineers (14-9, 3-7 Big 12) on Saturday.
West Virginia dismantled the Oklahoma Sooners 93-61 at WVU Coliseum on Saturday. Erik Stevenson was a top performer with 34 points and six rebounds. The Mountaineers remain eighth in the Big 12 Conference.
Texas lost on Monday at Allen Fieldhouse, falling to the Kansas Jayhawks 88-80. Marcus Carr had 29 points in the losing effort, carrying the team. The Longhorns remain first in the Big 12 Conference.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. Texas will be aiming for a season sweep against West Virginia after triumphing in the only previous meeting 69-61 at WVU Coliseum on January 21, their third straight head-to-head victory. Carr led the Longhorns with 23 points.
Kedrian Johnson had 22 points in the losing effort. Stevenson is averaging 14.9 points per game to lead the Mountaineers in scoring this season.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Bell Jr. is grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game, and Johnson is dishing 2.9 assists. Carr has powered the Longhorns on offense, averaging 17.0 points per game. Carr also has recorded 4.0 assists per game.
