The Oklahoma Sooners (13-13, 3-10 Big 12) will try to slow down one of the nation’s top scoring teams when they head to face the No. 6 Texas Longhorns (20-6, 9-4 Big 12) on Saturday. Oklahoma beat the Kansas State Wildcats 79-65 at Lloyd Noble Center on Tuesday.
With 22 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, Grant Sherfield was a top performer. The Sooners are ninth in the Big 12 Conference. Texas fell short on Monday at United Supermarkets Arena, falling to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 74-67.
Marcus Carr had 23 points and six assists in the loss to lead the team. The Longhorns fell to second in the Big 12 Conference. It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams.
After winning the only previous season meeting against Oklahoma 70-69 at Lloyd Noble Center in December 2022, their fourth straight head-to-head victory, Texas will be seeking a season sweep.
Sherfield led the game in scoring with 22 points in defeat. Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen had 13 points apiece for the Longhorns, while Dylan Disu contributed 10 points and three blocks.
The Sooners have been led this season by Sherfield, who is averaging 16.7 points per game. Sherfield also has dished 3.5 assists per game. Meanwhile, Tanner Groves is grabbing 6.8 rebounds.
Carr’s 17.2 points per game have powered the Longhorns on offense. Carr also has doled out 4.0 assists per game. Allen has averaged 5.2 rebounds per game.
The Longhorns are one of the most explosive offenses in the NCAA, ranking 26th with 79.5 points per game. Oklahoma is 3-7 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -8.1 (66.6-74.7). For the season, the Sooners are averaging 67.9 points per game, compared to 67.3 for opponents.
Texas has gone 6-4 over the last 10, scoring 75.4 points per game on average while allowing 72.5 (+2.9 margin). The Longhorns are averaging 79.5 ppg for the full season while allowing 68.3.
