The Oklahoma Sooners (9-3) host the No. 6 Texas Longhorns (11-1) on Saturday to tip off Big 12 Conference play. Texas outplayed the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions 97-72 at Moody Center on Tuesday, their fifth win in a row.
Marcus Carr was the standout player with 41 points. Oklahoma won on December 20 at Spectrum Center, beating the Florida Gators 62-53. Grant Sherfield had 22 points to lead the team. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Texas won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was an 80-78 triumph at Lloyd Noble Center on February 15, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones led the Longhorns with 20 points apiece, while Christian Bishop was a key contributor with 16 points. EJ Harkless had 19 points and five steals in the loss. The Longhorns have been led this season by Carr, who is averaging 17.8 points per game. Carr also has dished 4.1 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Allen is grabbing 6.0 rebounds.Sherfield (18.0 ppg) has been the primary provider for the Sooners on offense. Sherfield also has distributed 3.9 assists per game. Tanner Groves has collected 6.9 rebounds per game.
The Longhorns are averaging 83.8 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring offenses in the NCAA (17th).The Sooners have had success in recent games between the teams at Lloyd Noble Center, winning six of the last 10.
