The No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers (7-1) will try to slow down one of the country’s top scoring teams when they welcome the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (4-4) on Wednesday. Eastern Kentucky was defeated by the James Madison Dukes 97-80 at Atlantic Union Bank Center on Friday.
Devontae Blanton was a top performer in defeat with 17 points. Tennessee won their sixth in a row in dominating fashion on Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena, beating the Alcorn State Braves 94-40. Olivier Nkamhoua had 20 points and six assists to lead the team.
The Volunteers got the win in the last meeting between the teams 95-67 at Thompson-Boling Arena in November 2018. The Colonels have been led this season by Blanton, who is averaging 17.8 points per game. Meanwhile, Isaiah Cozart is grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game, and Tayshawn Comer is dishing 3.6 assists.
Julian Phillips (11.8 ppg), Nkamhoua (10.9), and Tyreke Key (10.8) have supplied much of the Volunteers’ offense. Phillips also has pulled down 5.1 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Zakai Zeigler has tallied 3.5 assists per game.The Colonels are averaging 83.5 points per game, ranking as one of the most explosive offenses in the nation (19th).
