The St. John’s Red Storm (16-11, 6-10 Big East) host the No. 18 Creighton Bluejays (17-9, 11-4 Big East) Saturday at Carnesecca Arena.
Creighton was beaten by the Providence Friars 94-86 in double overtime at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Tuesday. Ryan Nembhard was the standout player in the loss with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bluejays remain fourth in the Big East Conference. St. John’s won on Tuesday at Wintrust Arena, beating the DePaul Blue Demons 92-83 in double overtime. Dylan Addae-Wusu had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team. The Red Storm are eighth in the Big East Conference.
This marks the last meeting of the season between the teams. Creighton will be looking for a season sweep against St. John’s after taking the only previous meeting 104-76 at CHI Health Center Omaha on January 25, their fifth straight head-to-head victory.
Baylor Scheierman led the Bluejays with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. AJ Storr had 23 points in defeat. Trey Alexander (13.6 ppg), Ryan Kalkbrenner (13.2), and Scheierman (13.1) are leading the Bluejays in scoring this season. Scheierman also has grabbed 8.2 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Nembhard is dishing 5.0 assists per game. Joel Soriano has powered the Red Storm’s offense, averaging 15.4 points per game. Soriano also has averaged 12.1 rebounds per game, fourth-most in the NCAA.
Andre Curbelo has distributed 4.0 assists per game. Creighton is 8-2 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +9.2 (76.7-67.5). St. John’s has split the last 10 (5-5), allowing 76.8 points per game on average while scoring only 73.6 (-3.2 margin).
