The No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers (23-4, 12-4 Big 10), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, play host to the Ohio State Buckeyes (11-15, 3-12 Big 10) on Sunday.
Ohio State lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes 92-75 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday, their seventh straight loss. Sean McNeil was the key player in the losing effort with 20 points. The Buckeyes remain 13th in the Big Ten Conference.
Purdue dropped their last game on Thursday at Xfinity Center, falling to the Maryland Terrapins 68-54. Braden Smith had 18 points in the losing effort to lead the team. The Boilermakers are first in the Big Ten Conference.
This is the final meeting of the season between the teams. Purdue will be seeking a season sweep against Ohio State after winning the only prior meeting 71-69 at Value City Arena on January 5. Smith led the Boilermakers with 16 points and six assists. Brice Sensabaugh had 21 points in the losing effort.
Sensabaugh is averaging 16.3 points per game to lead the Buckeyes in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Zed Key is grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game, and Bruce Thornton is dishing 2.6 assists.
Zach Edey has powered the Boilermakers on offense, averaging 21.2 points per game. Edey also has pulled down 12.3 rebounds per game, most in the NCAA.
Smith has distributed 4.3 assists per game. The Boilermakers are holding opponents to 61.9 points per game, ranking as one of the best scoring defenses in the country (19th).Ohio State is 1-9 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -7.3 (65.5-72.8).
