The Georgetown Hoyas (6-18, 1-12 Big East) will be hoping to halt their losing skid when they are on the road to face the No. 20 Providence Friars (17-6, 9-3 Big East) on Wednesday. Georgetown lost to the UConn Huskies 68-62 at Capital One Arena on Saturday, their third straight loss.
With 21 points, Brandon Murray was the scoring leader in the loss. The Hoyas are 11th in the Big East Conference. Providence lost a close one on Wednesday at Cintas Center, falling to the Xavier Musketeers 85-83 in overtime. Noah Locke scored 22 to top the scoresheet in the losing effort. With 21 points and nine rebounds, Ed Croswell also had a strong game. The Friars slipped to fourth in the Big East Conference.
This marks the only meeting of the season between the teams. Providence won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 71-52 triumph at Capital One Arena in February 2022.
Jared Bynum led the Friars with 32 points and five steals. Aminu Mohammed had 18 points in the losing effort. Primo Spears is averaging 16.1 points per game to lead the Hoyas in scoring this season. Spears also has dished 5.3 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Qudus Wahab is grabbing 7.3 rebounds. Bryce Hopkins (16.1 ppg) has powered the Friars’ offense. Hopkins also has averaged 9.3 rebounds per game. Bynum has distributed 3.7 assists per game. The Friars have had success in the last 10 meetings between the teams at Amica Mutual Pavilion, winning seven.
In the last 10 games, Georgetown is 1-9 with an average margin of -11.2 (65.6-76.8). For the season, the Hoyas are averaging 71.1 points per game, compared to 77.2 for opponents. Providence has gone 7-3 over the last 10, scoring 75.1 points per game on average while allowing 68.0 (+7.1 margin).
