The No. 5 Purdue Boilermakers (24-4, 13-4 Big 10) will try to slow down one of the country’s top shooting teams when they welcome the No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers (19-9, 10-7 Big 10) on Saturday. Indiana was beaten by the Michigan State Spartans 80-65 at Jack Breslin Student Events Center on Tuesday.
Trayce Jackson-Davis was a top performer in the loss with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The Hoosiers dropped to fourth in the Big Ten Conference. Purdue won their sixth straight home game in dominating fashion on Sunday at Mackey Arena, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes 82-55.
Zach Edey had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, carrying the team. The Boilermakers remain first in the Big Ten Conference.This marks the final meeting of the season between the teams.
Indiana will be aiming for a season sweep against Purdue after coming out on top in the only earlier game 79-74 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on February 4. Edey led the game in scoring with 33 points, 18 rebounds, and three blocks in the losing effort. Jackson-Davis had 25 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks for the Hoosiers.
Jackson-Davis is averaging 19.0 points per game to lead the Hoosiers in scoring this season. Jackson-Davis also has grabbed 10.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Jalen Hood-Schifino is dishing 3.5 assists.Edey’s 21.4 points per game have powered the Boilermakers on offense. He has the 10th-highest scoring average in the nation. Edey also has posted 12.3 rebounds per game, most in the country.
Braden Smith has doled out 4.3 assists per game. Shooting 49.2% from the field, the Hoosiers are one of the most accurate field goal shooting teams in the country (6th). In the last 10 games, Indiana is 7-3 with an average margin of +2.0 (68.9-66.9).
For the season, the Hoosiers are averaging 75.4 points per game, compared to 67.4 for opponents. Purdue has also a 7-3 record over the last 10, scoring 70.6 points per game on average while allowing 62.4 (+8.2 margin).
