The No. 23 Providence Friars (15-5, 7-2 Big East) will be out to build on their home winning streak Wednesday when they welcome the Butler Bulldogs (11-10, 3-7 Big East), who will hope to halt a road skid of their own. Butler was dismantled by the UConn Huskies 86-56 at XL Center on Sunday, their third consecutive loss away from home.
Chuck Harris led the way in the loss with 16 points and five steals. The Bulldogs are 10th in the Big East Conference. Providence won their eighth straight home game on Saturday at Amica Mutual Pavilion, beating the DePaul Blue Demons 75-64.
Noah Locke had 29 points to lead the team. The Friars dropped to third in the Big East Conference. It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams.
After taking the only prior season matchup against Butler 72-52 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in December 2022, their fifth straight head-to-head victory, Providence will be looking for a season sweep. Devin Carter led the Friars with 21 points.
Manny Bates had 12 points and three blocks in the loss. The Bulldogs have been led this season by Harris (12.4 ppg), Jayden Taylor (12.1), and Simas Lukosius (11.5). Lukosius also has dished 2.9 assists per game. Meanwhile, Bates is grabbing 5.1 rebounds per game.
Bryce Hopkins’ 16.6 points per game have powered the Friars on offense. Hopkins also has pulled down 9.3 rebounds per game. Jared Bynum has doled out 3.6 assists per game. In the last 10 games, Butler is 3-7 with an average margin of -11.1 (61.1-72.2).
