The No. 12 Tennessee Volunteers (22-8, 11-6 SEC), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, are on the road to face the Auburn Tigers (19-11, 9-8 SEC) on Saturday. Tennessee outplayed the Arkansas Razorbacks 75-57 at Thompson-Boling Arena on Tuesday.
With 16 points and seven rebounds, Olivier Nkamhoua was a top performer. The Volunteers remain fourth in the Southeastern Conference. Auburn lost on Wednesday at Coleman Coliseum, falling to the Alabama Crimson Tide 90-85 in overtime. K.D. Johnson had 21 points in defeat, leading the team.
The Tigers are seventh in the Southeastern Conference.The teams are meeting for the last time this season. Tennessee will be looking for a season sweep against Auburn after triumphing in the only previous matchup 46-43 at Thompson-Boling Arena on February 4.
Josiah-Jordan James led the Volunteers with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Johni Broome had 11 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks in the losing effort. Santiago Vescovi (11.2 ppg), Nkamhoua (10.7), and Zakai Zeigler (10.7) have led the Volunteers in scoring this season.
Nkamhoua also has grabbed 5.1 rebounds per game, while Zeigler has dished 5.4 assists per game. Wendell Green Jr. (13.6 ppg) and Broome (13.5) have been the primary providers of the Tigers’ offense. Broome also has collected 8.2 rebounds per game, while Green Jr. has distributed 4.2 assists per game.
The Volunteers are holding opponents to 56.7 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring defenses in the nation (3rd). In the last 10 games, Tennessee is 5-5 with an average margin of +4.9 (67.7-62.8). For the season, the Volunteers are averaging 71.9 points per game, compared to 56.7 for opponents.
