The No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers (10-2, 2-1 ACC), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, head to face the Pittsburgh Panthers (10-4, 3-0 ACC) on Tuesday. Virginia blew out the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 74-56 at McCamish Pavilion on Saturday.
Kihei Clark had a standout performance with 15 points and eight assists. The Cavaliers slipped to sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pittsburgh won their fourth in a row in a close one on Friday at Petersen Events Center, beating the North Carolina Tar Heels 76-74.
Jamarius Burton had 31 points and six rebounds to lead the team. The Panthers dropped to third in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This is the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Virginia won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 66-61 triumph at Petersen Events Center in January 2022, their eighth straight head-to-head victory. Reece Beekman led the Cavaliers with 19 points and eight assists. John Hugley IV had 23 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort.
The Cavaliers have been led this season by Jayden Gardner (12.0 ppg), Clark (11.5), and Armaan Franklin (10.8). Gardner also has grabbed 5.7 rebounds per game, while Clark has dished 5.8 assists per game.Blake Hinson’s 17.1 points per game have powered the Panthers on offense.
Hinson also has collected 7.3 rebounds per game. Nelly Cummings has tallied 4.9 assists per game. Holding opponents to 58.3 points per game, the Cavaliers are one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the NCAA (11th).
