Colorado State Rams (8-5) head to face the No. 22 New Mexico Lobos (12-0) on Wednesday to get their Mountain West Conference schedules going.
Colorado State was defeated by the USC Trojans 73-64 at Footprint Center on Wednesday. Patrick Cartier had a standout performance in defeat with 22 points.
New Mexico won their 12th in a row in dominating fashion on December 20 at The Pit, beating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 94-63. Jamal Mashburn Jr. led the team in scoring with 17 points. With 10 points and nine assists, Jaelen House also impressed.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Colorado State won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was an 83-68 triumph at The Pit on February 17, their fourth straight head-to-head victory.
David Roddy led the Rams with 31 points and nine rebounds. Jay Allen-Tovar had 17 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort. The Rams have been led this season by John Tonje, who is averaging 14.2 points per game. Tonje also has grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Taviontae Jackson is dishing 3.7 assists.Morris Udeze (17.5 ppg), Mashburn Jr. (16.8), and House (16.4) have powered the Lobos’ offense. House also has recorded 5.3 assists per game. Meanwhile, Josiah Allick has collected 8.2 rebounds per game.
The Lobos are one of the most explosive offenses in the country, ranking 12th with 84.5 points per game. Colorado State is 5-5 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +7.2 (76.9-69.7).
New Mexico has won each of the last 10 as part of the team’s 12-game win streak, scoring 84.5 points per game on average while allowing 65.8 (+18.7 margin).
