The Loyola Marymount Lions (17-10, 7-6 WCC) will try to slow down the NCAA’s top scoring team when they host the No. 13 Gonzaga Bulldogs (21-5, 10-2 WCC) on Thursday.
Gonzaga beat the BYU Cougars 88-81 at McCarthey Athletic Center on Saturday. Julian Strawther had a standout performance with 26 points. The Bulldogs remain second in the West Coast Conference.
Loyola Marymount dropped a close one on Saturday at Leavey Center, falling to the Santa Clara Broncos 71-69. Cam Shelton had 36 points in the losing effort, carrying the team. The Lions remain fourth in the West Coast Conference.
It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams. Loyola Marymount will be seeking a season sweep against Gonzaga after getting the win in the only earlier meeting 68-67 at McCarthey Athletic Center on January 19. Shelton led the Lions with 27 points, while Jalin Anderson was a key contributor with 15 points.
Drew Timme had 17 points in the loss. The Bulldogs have been led this season by Timme, who is averaging 21.1 points per game. Timme also is contributing 7.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Shelton has powered the Lions on offense, averaging 20.4 points per game. Shelton also has tallied 4.4 assists per game.
Keli Leaupepe has averaged 7.0 rebounds per game.The Bulldogs rank as the highest-scoring offense in the country with 86.3 points per game.
