The Louisville Cardinals (2-11, 0-3 ACC) will be out to halt their road losing skid when they travel to face the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats (8-3) on Saturday. Louisville lost to the North Carolina State Wolfpack 76-64 at PNC Arena on December 22, their fourth straight loss away from home. Sydney Curry was the scoring leader in the losing effort with 16 points.
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield was another standout performer with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Cardinals slipped to 14th in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Kentucky won in impressive fashion on December 21 at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center, beating the Florida A&M Rattlers 88-68. Cason Wallace had 27 points and nine assists, leading the team.
The Cardinals came out on top in the last meeting between the teams 62-59 at KFC Yum! Center in December 2020. Carlik Jones led the Cardinals with 20 points, while David Johnson was a key contributor with 17 points and seven rebounds. Davion Mintz had 19 points and seven rebounds in defeat.
The Cardinals have been led this season by El Ellis, who is averaging 17.1 points per game. Ellis also has dished 4.2 assists per game. Meanwhile, Huntley-Hatfield is grabbing 6.3 rebounds. Antonio Reeves (12.8 ppg), Oscar Tshiebwe (12.3), and Wallace (11.8) have supplied much of the Wildcats’ offense.
Tshiebwe also has averaged 10.6 rebounds per game, seventh-most in the country. Meanwhile, Sahvir Wheeler has tallied 5.7 assists per game. In the last 10 games, Louisville is 2-8 with an average margin of -15.4 (60.0-75.4). Kentucky has gone 7-3 over the last 10, scoring 77.1 points per game on average while allowing 64.5 (+12.6 margin).
