The No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones (17-10, 8-7 Big 12), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, host the Oklahoma Sooners (13-15, 3-12 Big 12) on Saturday. Oklahoma was defeated by the Texas Tech Red Raiders 74-63 at Lloyd Noble Center on Tuesday. Tanner Groves led the way in defeat with 16 points.
The Sooners are 10th in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State lost in blowout fashion on Tuesday at Moody Center, falling to the Texas Longhorns 72-54. Osun Osunniyi had 12 points in the loss, carrying the team. The Cyclones remain fifth in the Big 12 Conference.
It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams. Iowa State will be looking for a season sweep against Oklahoma after triumphing in the only prior matchup 63-60 at Lloyd Noble Center on January 4. Caleb Grill led the Cyclones with 20 points. Jalen Hill had 16 points in the loss.
Grant Sherfield is averaging 16.5 points per game to lead the Sooners in scoring this season. Sherfield also has dished 3.4 assists per game. Meanwhile, Groves is grabbing 6.8 rebounds. Jaren Holmes (13.1 ppg) and Gabe Kalscheur (12.3) have supplied much of the Cyclones’ offense.
Osunniyi is posting 4.2 rebounds per game, and Tamin Lipsey is tallying 4.7 assists. The Cyclones are one of the best scoring defenses in the NCAA, ranking 18th with 62.0 points per game allowed. The Sooners are only 1-9 in their last 10 visits to James H. Hilton Coliseum.
Oklahoma is 2-8 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -7.9 (67.9-75.8). For the season, the Sooners are averaging 68.3 points per game, compared to 68.2 for opponents.
