The No. 1 Houston Cougars (25-2, 13-1 AAC) will try to slow down one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams when they host the Tulane Green Wave (17-7, 10-3 AAC) on Wednesday.
Tulane outplayed the South Florida Bulls 84-66 at Yuengling Center on Saturday, their fifth win in a row. Jalen Cook was a top performer with 30 points and seven assists. The Green Wave are second in the American Athletic Conference.
Houston won their seventh in a row on Sunday at Fertitta Center, beating the Memphis Tigers 72-64. J’Wan Roberts had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the team. The Cougars are first in the American Athletic Conference.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. After winning the only prior season matchup against Tulane 80-60 at Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse on January 17, their 10th straight head-to-head victory, Houston will be aiming for a season sweep. Marcus Sasser led the Cougars with 23 points. Jaylen Forbes had 23 points in the losing effort.
The Green Wave have been led this season by Forbes, who is averaging 18.8 points per game. Meanwhile, Kevin Cross is grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game, and Cook is dishing 4.1 assists. Sasser’s 16.7 points per game have powered the Cougars on offense. Roberts is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, and Jamal Shead is distributing 5.6 assists.
