The Providence Friars (12-3, 4-0 Big East) will try to slow down one of the country’s top scoring teams when they host the No. 4 UConn Huskies (14-1, 3-1 Big East) on Wednesday. UConn dropped their last game against the Xavier Musketeers 83-73 at Cintas Center on Saturday.
Adama Sanogo was the scoring leader in the losing effort with 18 points. Andre Jackson Jr. chipped in with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. The Huskies dropped to fourth in the Big East Conference.
Providence won their seventh in a row on Sunday at Wintrust Arena, beating the DePaul Blue Demons 74-59. Devin Carter had 22 points, five steals, and four blocks to lead the team. The Friars are first in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season.
Providence came out on top in the only matchup between the teams last season 57-53 at XL Center in December 2021. A.J. Reeves led the Friars with 16 points. R.J. Cole had 16 points and eight assists in the losing effort.
The Huskies have been led this season by Sanogo, who is averaging 17.8 points per game. Sanogo also has grabbed 6.7 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Tristen Newton is dishing 4.6 assists. Bryce Hopkins (15.7 ppg) has been the primary provider of the Friars’ offense. Hopkins also has pulled down 9.5 rebounds per game. Jared Bynum has recorded 4.7 assists per game.
With 82.3 points per game, the Huskies are one of the most explosive offenses in the NCAA (20th).UConn is 9-1 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +17.2 (79.8-62.6).
