The No. 16 Illinois Fighting Illini (5-1), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, play host to the Syracuse Orange (3-3) on Tuesday. Syracuse was narrowly beaten by the Bryant Bulldogs 73-72 at JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday. Justin Taylor had a standout performance in the losing effort with 25 points.
Illinois won in dominant fashion on Friday at State Farm Center, beating the Lindenwood Lions 92-59. Skyy Clark had 19 points to lead the team. The Orange have been led this season by Judah Mintz (16.2 ppg), Joseph Girard III (15.7), and Jesse Edwards (14.5). Edwards also has grabbed 10.5 rebounds per game, while Mintz has dished 2.8 assists per game.
Terrence Shannon Jr. has powered the Fighting Illini’s offense, averaging 20.3 points per game. Shannon Jr. also has tallied 3.8 assists per game. Dain Dainja has collected 7.0 rebounds per game. The Fighting Illini are one of the top scoring offenses in the NCAA, ranking 21st with 84.7 points per game.
