The Memphis Tigers (20-6, 10-3 AAC), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, are on the road to face the No. 2 Houston Cougars (24-2, 12-1 AAC) on Sunday.
Memphis edged past the UCF Knights 64-63 at FedExForum on Thursday, their third straight win. Elijah McCadden led the way with 16 points.
The Tigers are second in the American Athletic Conference. Houston won their sixth in a row on Thursday at Moody Coliseum, beating the SMU Mustangs 80-65. Marcus Sasser had 20 points, leading the team. The Cougars remain first in the American Athletic Conference.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. They last met in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship when the Cougars clinched the title with a 71-53 victory at Dickies Arena in March 2022.
Memphis won both regular season games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 53-71 triumph at Dickies Arena in March 2022. Fabian White Jr. led the Cougars with 20 points. Jalen Duren had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in the losing effort.
